fatal float crash

Wow...sorry to hear about that. My great uncle was a TWA 747 capt out of JFK when flight 800 went down and it hit pretty hard over there, so I imagine it hits you guys pretty hard.

Why would you start a new topic bringing attention to this accident? I didn't see any speculation in any other threads, why would you open up the forum to speculation?

I wish I didn't have to say this, but logging on to the web in order to garner attention from a fatal accident isn't cool.

These kinds of things occur to everybody throughout their aviation careers. They're very unfortunate but you learn from them, move on, and tighten up your flying.

everyone that goes through our seaplane safety course goes through under water egress training, but since the guy was crunched for time, and just doing an add on, he didnt go.

I am always amazed by how many people completely overlook a belt cutter in their emergency equipment. Standard aviation buckles, no matter what design, don't release very easily when you are hanging from it.

egress training is very often overlooked...

*edit* That was not really directed at the thread or the people involved... was a comment to the idea that most people never prepare for the need to get out of a wreck.

I certainly won't speculate on cmill's motivation for posting, but I must say that your submission sounds harsh. I have my seaplane rating and feel the grief with the loss of life in this accident, despite not even knowing either of the involved individuals. Cmill worked there. Sharing is a part of this community. Judging someone else's intentions is not cool.

You need to slow your roll. I'm not going to go into any farther detail then that. This thread is to mourn the loss of a fellow aviator and help one of our members through a difficult time in his life.

Wow, just wow. Give the guy a break! As you say, people learn from accidents. Isn't that maybe one of the reasons Cmill is posting about this? So we can LEARN from it? Granted, the facts aren't out or anything, but still, it gives us aviators a little bit more to think about when they go flying. I know it did for me the other day, and I don't even fly seaplanes.

As a longtime lurker and shortime poster, I might be a little bit out of my element by saying this, but JC is a little different than just the internet. Most people on here know each other off the boards. Doug likes to refer to it as his "living room". I don't think Cmill posted here to get attention, I think he posted to let his friends know about a loss and make everyone's flying "tighter" for it.

Yup, everyone dies eventually right, just walk it off. Pansy.

Seriously?

Anyway, very sorry to hear about your loss, I wish you guys all the best.

...because this is more than just another internet website. We are a pretty tight community here, and we can fight like kids in the back of the station-wagon, but when something bad happens to one of us we rally around and empathize.

Once you have been around longer you will realize that many of us know each other and spend time together in the analog world.

So no worries, but do consider this like a place for hangar talk, along with being the living room of a friend (dough and K) where everyone always hangs out.

It's OK to want to get some support from your friends (even if they are internet friends) when something traumatic happens.

Look, bro. Next time, instead of logging onto an anonymous internet forum and start accusing people of attention off of a fatal accident, that involves them personally, just go ahead and blow it out your ass instead of banging it out on a keyboard. I consider the members of this forum somewhat of a second family, and im extremely great-full for the support they provide.

I dont need your pep talk. This isnt the first person ive known thats crashed a plane, and its not going to be the last. I'm well aware its a fact of life. I'd prefer to talk about it though. If you have a problem with that, fine, but id appreciate it if you didnt call me out like that.

Wow - wish we could all be hardass's like this guy. Obviously when bad things happen you don't need any help.

People, I wouldn't be surprised if this poster Ollie actually works for the company Southern Seaplane as well. Personally, I believe the family of the fallen pilot should take the boss to the cleaners on this one. The super pilot mentality finally caught up with him and this is one he can't just sweep under the rug like the rest of the aircraft he has bent up in the past. I believe the owner should have learned from the first time this happen to him. The real lesson here is ego and the super pilot mentality for those that don't know much about the company. Where was Bonnie (the tropical storm) during this flight? Hmmm, sure wasn't far from the cost at this time. Not a very good idea to do some flight training when a storm is within miles of the cost but if you consider yourself a super pilot well then sure you can. My heart goes out to the family of this man.

What a first post, came out guns blazing.

Cmill, sorry to hear about this. One of the things I never really had considered was evacuation of a seaplane. Looking back, I wish that was something that had been covered in the training I got. Hopefully we can all learn something from this one. RIP to the fallen.

Well, here's the trick. The website is more or less the "mushroom cap" on a larger "social organism".

We talk. We're supposed to talk because we try to support one another in both good times and bad.

When you walk around, does it sting? What the eff do you know about this event? What do you even know about aviation? I myself have flown a few times in the bands of hurricanes and while not comfortable, it's not always dangerous. The simple fact is no one, save maybe one person, know what happened here but even that is not relevant to our discussion.

What I can tell you is that Cmill is no sympathy-ho and most of us who have commented in this thread have done so for no other reason than to support a friend of ours. Please potty in your own cheerios, not ours.

Pretty candyass thing to do if you ask me. Got something to say, use your own persona to say it. Then own what it is you say. Simple as that.

Especially if you've been around here a while.......you should know better that's not how we roll here........
