FAA Hiring Process Revamped

Confirmed by HR: If you still have a green check, you passed the Bioq. Red (!)s are updated.

I somehow managed to pass this time through...

I just looked and I still have the Green Check. It doesn't say anything else though. Is this what others are seeing ?

If your application status says "reviewed" and you still have the green check, then you're good to go and you'll be moving along in the process. Others that say "reviewed" and have a red exclamation point aren't so lucky.

Failed. So did all 5 applicants I know of working at the various ramp towers here at SFO. One is a CTI grad with an aviation degree and 3 years of ramp tower experience as well as various airline experience who won't make the age cut-off in another few months, he's pretty pissed.

These characteristics include factors such as prior general and ATC-specific work experience, education and training, work habits, academic and other achievements, and life experiences among other factors.
Considering how many of those boxes I checked, ok then...o_O

Whats frustrating is this BQ seemed to make way more sense, and apparently more people passed than last time, but I don't know anyone who passed...very curious as to what they're looking for as yet again, relevant experience doesn't seem to be it.

The entire process has hit such absurd heights. Trying to find a common personality or background for a successful controller? Good luck. I've worked with people who have PhD's and others who probably signed their mortgage in their favorite Crayon. People who legitimately love and maintain 8 track and people who have an in home server dedicated to their home theater experience. None of it matters.

I'm just waiting on the next trainee who thinks a Beech Jet BE40 is a tad larger than a BE35 Bonanza.

Sorry to hear, man. Seems like you'd be a good candidate.

Thanks. I would love to do ATC, just ramp control is so much fun. But, time is running out where I can accept a position that has me in a mystery location for 2 years minimum. I'm still pursing flying and becoming an entertainer, and the day either one works out to require me in one location, my shot at ATC is pretty much out the window. I hope many on here passed, keep asking around hoping I can be happy for someone but so far, very few and no one I know personally.

I have two friends that passed the BQ. One applied just to apply and told me straight up he is 99% sure he won't actually accept if given an offer lol. This new process is just like playing the lottery.

I read yesterday a guy who had a CTO got denied (not uncommon it appears) and for fun he had his wife who was a school teacher with 0 aviation background applied, and she got accepted. When people who don't even want to do it and do it as a joke are getting passed, and people who spent time actually controlling traffic don't, all bc of some bs test, it's sad.

Like genot said, atcers are all over the place. I've experienced so many different personality traits it's not even funny. I am almost sure that they decided who passes by a random drawing anymore lol.

One of the ugliest situations I've seen in my young career arose from a trainee trying to sequence a BE30 with jets.... The look on his and his trainers face when they're replaying it at the supes desk was priceless.

Sorry to hear that some of you guys didn't get through. I have several friends that are probably way more qualified than I am that didn't get through. Its a weird process. As my buddy said, this whole thing feels like GATACCA.

I've noticed something interesting. They ask about all this aviation experience, but then there is the BQ. Digging around the interwebs, it would appear the vast majority of pilots, ramp controllers, and pretty much anyone who has experience clicking a mic didn't pass. However, it would appear that many of the people who made it through have NO aviation background. Hmm...it's almost like they don't want to chance it with people who could say "North Dakota? Eff this!" and easily move on to something else in the industry like flying. Given the way you just end up where you end up now, I'm sure that's not helping them retain people as I am aware of many quitting which I'm not sure is a normal occurrence as people going thru OKC in the PUBNAT days didn't really talk about significant numbers of quitters. Just my $0.02 from some digging around. But who knows.

While I was at the academy it was actually semi rare for a class to evaluate with all 18 people that started together. Lots and lots of people quitting because its 'boring' or they didn't like the whole placement thing. Very frustrating knowing people that would kill for that seat in the academy.

I just hope it all works out and people that want this more than anything else eventually get their shot. From all the people I know at UND, only 4 or 5 passed the BQ. Kind of crazy

As bad as I want it, I feel so much worse for the guys with CTI degrees(ESPECIALLY those with CTIs plus relevant experience) who can't get in. I wouldn't be so bummed out about it if at least those guys were getting in ahead of me. But when we all aren't and Best Buy cashiers are, what the bloody hell? I just hope there is another announcement sooner than later, all we can do is throw our hats in and see where the big wheel lands.

But I'm very happy for you man, seriously. Seems like yesterday you were brake-riding 737s and we were joking around on the radio. At least you made it. As you should have.

I have a CTI degree, PPL, AS in Aviation Science, and worked on the ramp. I was happy they gave me all of those boxes to check. But again, I failed the BQ. No idea what they are looking for. Half the people that were in my CTI class couldn't tell you the difference between a C172 and a CJ1. One guy actually asked me what a 747 is. A lot of people wanted the job because they didn't need a four year degree and could make bank. Frustrating for the people who actually enjoy aviation and would like to work in the industry. Oh well, hoping for a better outcome next year.

Sorry to hear that man, I really wish the people with the lifelong interest in being in aviation and doing this job for the love of it were picked up and not those who hears they could make a ton of money without a degree. In my experience at the academy those who were only there for the dollar signs with no real interest or desire to control traffic didn't fare too well and it's a shame. But I guess this is the process they want to use so hopefully you guys all make it in the next time around. It's worth the wait I can promise you that.
