Cognitive decline is real in the flight deck too. I've seen some guys over 60 that are still sharp, but they're outliers.
Wait til Age 67!
Apparently it only failed by one vote last time.

Agreed… there were about ten thousand people who graduated from accredited universities (from about 2002-2010) with the intent of being controllers who aren’t because of stupidity and poor decisions regardless of political persuasion. The issues in ATC right now go back waaay further than Trump. This can has been kicked down the road since even before 1981.
Good on you… keep it up. If it isn’t documented it can’t be fixed. More data like that might actually bring change in a semi meaningful way. They get really mad at me when I write on training forms
“This hour had 6 planes. It taught the trainee nothing but did waste an hour of their allotted hours, but at least we get to make the people in Washington happy.”
Wish more trainers did this. I had a trainer at a previous facility write something to this effect and they made him re-write the form (pre-TEAM).They get really mad at me when I write on training forms

Yeeting another thread into the lav due to politics at the same rate the FAA is yeeting airplanes into EWR. I feel almost as bad for the JC admins as I do the EWR controllers.
I found only this Arca Jet Citation XGood evening to everyone except the VFR dude cruising through our departure route out of EWR IMC at 17.5 yesterday.
Your stalking skills are unsettlingI found only this Arca Jet Citation X

I’d imagine most will try to milk the LTD train if 67 passes. Every time I hear the “fly til you die” guys ramble on I think about the FA’s. More so how slow the seniority train is depending on the airline, or was pre covid. Pre covid I knew FA’s who were waiting for a while to get to ATL with Delta or DFW/PHX with American. That’s the seniority game unfortunately but doesn’t help when folks are slow to leave off the top.Wait til Age 67!

This is the part the masses don’t understand. This might sound crazy but I’m looking forward to the day where the system completely fall apart. Maybe then they’ll listen to the controllers and entertain some serious changes. Either that or some politicians family will be a part of the next accident. I had no clue about the number of controller retirement looming but good! Hopefully all of you all can ride off into the sunset with a lot less stress and leave the problems to someone else.It takes around 3 years to get someone from New Hire to fully certified at my facility. Even with this "supercharged hiring", theres almost no chance this problem is "fixed" by 2030 even.
Hardly anyone is talking about the massive wave of controllers hired in the late 00's that are about to become retirement eligible. There is a huge brain drain of experience coming for the FAA in the next 5 years or so.
Its perhaps a hot take, but there should be more delays and massively so nationwide for controller staffing. We've "made it work" with inadequate resources with almost no penalty to the Users/Airlines for far too long. The Chickens of FAA mismanagement and Congressional choice to pay OT instead of hiring enough people to actually do this job are coming home to roost. Ive said it over and over on here, but its going to get worse before it gets even worse.
