When the flight diverted to Buffalo, they were flying N131SY and blocked in at 11:42 AM. When the flight continued to BDL, it departed at 6:13 PM on N119SY.

Over 6 hours on the ground and an aircraft swap? Hmmm....

So apparently a passenger in the back passed out. There were no indications of pressurization issues in the cockpit, but the crew determined the best course of action was to do an emergency decent just incase. This according to CNN...

Maybe an item was used out of the EEMK (or whatever they call it) on the passed out passenger and they had to ferry the airplane back to an MX hub to restock it, necessitating a second aircraft to be brought in to continue the flight.

Someone spilled coffee in the cockpit. In chaotic aftermath of "MY CROTCH BURNS OH SWEET GOD!!! I'M SUING!" someone initiated a dive, my guess is during the jump up and dancing around to cool the crotch down.... During the dive the coffee cup flew back and knocked someone unconscious. Medical emergency sounded better than spilling coffee. I assume the cream and sugar in the coffee leaked between the throttles and they became stuck. Therefore new a new clean aircraft was needed.
