Emirates 777 Rough Landing in Dubai

"I had a line check airman on the jumpseat"

Lets just say I know a guy who was apparently "the guy" who used a red pen to make an annotation on something and nearly destroyed the aviation internet with "DOOOOOOOOM!" even thought it's a multi-colored pen and it meant nothing.

I feel a headache coming on already.

Like this?

Why wasn't he using a hotel pen like a REAL pilot?

I can assure that he loaded you with a specious story.

And, on the next episode of "Ghost Hunters"...

"Well I was on the jumpseat...."

That's always the cue that i'm about to hear something ridiculous

Perhaps. But if that's their attitude now, it's no wonder they didn't (and probably won't) get a call.

But I assure you I am not the one lying, I'm just reiterating what I was told. Both cases it was FOs so who knows maybe they were just embellishing for a little fun.

"Upon contacting tower tower advised the crew to plan to vacate the runway at taxiway M9 (editorial note: which several listeners including the editor originally understood as a reminder for the crew to lower the gear) and cleared the aircraft to land. "

Not sure how asking to vacate the runway at a certain exit would serve as a reminder for the gear, but I'm not typed on the 777 nor have I ever flown for Emirates. Whenever they ask me to do that it's sort of a "well, we'll do our best" then business as usual.

I've not been to Dubai, but Abu Dhabi always gives some iteration of check gear down cleared to land much like the military airports I've been to in the US. I would imagine it'd be the same at all UAE airports.

We don't do it in Baghdad, but then again we don't do anything here like anyone else does.

I believe he is saying that on the ATC recording, the "plan to vacate at Mike 9" was originally interpreted by listeners after the fact, and reported as, a gear check.

Misheard song lyrics or something.
