Jerry,
First off I'm very glad the outcome for this was essentially a non-event.
I am going to give you a little advise (take it or leave it) as an accident investigator for ALPA.
I won't post anything on this or any other web board pertaining to your adventure... no matter how benign you think your comments may be it may be construed in ways you never thought possible by those investigating this.
I would even delete your post where you referenced your actions in the plane.
If you're a member of AOPA, a call to their legal services department is warranted even if the FAA is telling you all is fine right now.
I also wouldn't make any more statements to the media.... when your words become public record it's not just the FAA that can use them against you, it's the insurance companies, aircraft owners, property owners, etc...
Along the same line of thought but you may want to chat with your student about talking to the media as well.... the only person you should need to talk to is legal counsel (only if need be of course)... its just another part of being a pilot... kinda sucks but thats the way it is.
hey TEXAS PILOT!!! long time no talk too!!I am glad of your outcome and I think you'll be OK.
I can't find anything on the NTSB database/query- so they're not considering it? I'm surprised they don't want drain all your fuel and check further for the cause of loss of engine power.
Did you consider a wheels up in the wet field? How lucky it occured during daylight VMC.
