Emergency procedures you can walk away from

Jerry,

First off I'm very glad the outcome for this was essentially a non-event.

I am going to give you a little advise (take it or leave it) as an accident investigator for ALPA.

I won't post anything on this or any other web board pertaining to your adventure... no matter how benign you think your comments may be it may be construed in ways you never thought possible by those investigating this.

I would even delete your post where you referenced your actions in the plane.

If you're a member of AOPA, a call to their legal services department is warranted even if the FAA is telling you all is fine right now.

I also wouldn't make any more statements to the media.... when your words become public record it's not just the FAA that can use them against you, it's the insurance companies, aircraft owners, property owners, etc...

Along the same line of thought but you may want to chat with your student about talking to the media as well.... the only person you should need to talk to is legal counsel (only if need be of course)... its just another part of being a pilot... kinda sucks but thats the way it is.

Talking to the media is just one of those things that you never win at. At best, you break even, oftentimes you lose.

No question about it, that is the best landing you will ever make. I agree with the above posters, stop talking. When a future employer googles your name this will come up. I would be a far more interesting member of this board if I didn't fear google.

There doesn't appear to be any structural damage to the aircraft, I doubt the FAA will do anything to you.

good stuff guys . . . the media did get a hold of my transmissions from ATC (google it on your own) yeah, I will post more (on Merlin Metro Driver) whenever all of this blows over . . .
I am happy that I was flying with a "rated pilot" who did his own pre-flight and acknowldge that the aircraft was fit for flight . . . I was only there to give instruction once in flight and to act as a safety pilot while he was under the hood.

I am glad of your outcome and I think you'll be OK.

I can't find anything on the NTSB database/query- so they're not considering it? I'm surprised they don't want drain all your fuel and check further for the cause of loss of engine power.
Did you consider a wheels up in the wet field? How lucky it occured during daylight VMC.

hey TEXAS PILOT!!! long time no talk too!!
the NTSB is did not investigate it because it was not an accident . .heck it was barely in incident.
Couldnt have done a wheels up because it was/is a fixed gear.

As far as the plane goes as well, about a month and a half after this happend they put it sideways on a flat bed trailer, took it to ABIA (AUS) unloaded it from the trailer, put some AV gas in it, and away it flew!!!!
