Embarasssing ALPA Magazine Blunder

I would be more mad at ALPA than Tim. ALPA is the organization that many of you are members of.

I kind of feel bad for Tim. He obviously has extremely low self-esteem to have to make so much up. Clearly he has an illness that needs medical attention.

I don't understand the sympathy. Isn't this the exact kind of poser/fake/wannabe that so many of us have railed against all this time?

Seems like a chance to clean house. Let's do so.

As for ALPA- come on, how hard would it be to make a few phone calls?

We (Eagle Pilot) don't have a leg to stand on. Our own pro standards will not do anything about CS. Tim didn't do anything CS hasn't been doing for years.

Perhaps. No official channels, I guess.

We can sure as hell correct the fool through some peer pressure. If this doesn't make it clear that this sort of crap isn't tolerable, I don't know what else we can do.

I'd sure hate to be in his shoes right now, though.

Kinda wish he'd quit. Don't really care for his kind being around.

Word on the lounge is he did.

Oh no sympathy here. This guy need to go away, quick. He's a cancer to the airline as well as the profession. He just needs to find something else to go do, realizing there are some lines you just don't cross. Hope he's learned that.

Word on the street is that he's been suspended with pay pending investigation.

Rumors are suggesting he quit.

ALPA didn't do a very good job of fact checking, but he straight up lied and knew he was doing it. This is sorta like saying "Be mad at AP News Wire, not the guy that lied about the story." ALPA does share some responsibility in letting this go to print without checking up on the guy, but he's still mostly in the wrong for misrepresenting himself to the Captain Hammer like levels he did.

I certainly believe he should be held accountable. I am just saying he needs help obviously.

I find very little fault with ALPA. They are the biggest victim of his lies.
The first rule of journalism: Check your facts. One simple phone call to the fighter unit in question would have saved ALPA alot of face. I believe Tim should lose his job due to his questionable moral character that needs therapy. However, the writer with the 6 figure salary should also have job consequences.

They really should have caught it. Fact checking and research are pretty important at the negotiating table.

I mostly disagree with this... think about how many fighter pilots and people with varied backgrounds that there are at ALPA. Should they go and call every unit that a guy ever claims to have been a part of?

He had several recommendations, one of those a DAL FO that he flew one day with.

The DAL FO I know has recently said that "apparently my BS detector wasn't functioning normally that day." He is extremely embarrassed.

The biggest fault lies with the AE MEC and LECs where he was a well known weirdo. Why didn't they nip it in the bud?

All of it passed through them to get to the ALPA rag... why would they question it? They do interviews with mil guys all the time, he was just another airline pilot/guard dude to them. He probably tells it with such enthusiasm and self belief like most compulsive liars that it's hard to tell. He's a mentally ill individual and needs help in a bad way.

The biggest thing is he needs to be is removed from the cockpit and get the counselling he needs. Looking at his facebook page is looking at the page of a sick individual. It looks like in 2006 he was trying to convince others he was a WN pilot. Complete with pictures and the grammar and spelling of a kindergartner.

That could describe nearly any regional pilot, when they're at the bar late..........only difference is what airline they try to convince the girl they're with.

Saw it first hand.

:D

Oh trust me... I've seen it too.

This is like a bar story trying to get some poonanny that just kept on going.

Not only am I a firefighter, rescue diver, and fighter pilot, I also am a founding member of cirque du soleis and can be seen shape forming into a tiny asian dude performing all those amazing tricks!

:yeahthat:

Exactly what I was getting at. Thanks for putting it across better. Just like you said, there is nothing strange or out of the ordinary in the guy's story that would cause the reporter to follow up. Usually, by the time a pilot is interviewed for Airline Pilot all of the vetting processes have already happened. If the guy was a well known liar that the EGL ProStands guys or Management hadn't taken care of this before hand is more troubling.
