IS has claimed responsibility, but they aren't quite as "credible" these days having been caught in lies in recent months after incidents. If this was indeed an IS attack, it is interesting that this along with Metrojet and Dallo were all Airbuses. Have they figured out just where to puncture the fuel tank thru trial(Metrojet) and error(Dallo)? Possible, but who can tell for sure. The theories will fly around regardless. A video has allegedly surfaced taken from a Greek island of a fireball streaking thru the sky, but obviously this could be of anything.
What is for sure is that all eyes will be on the Egyptian authorities who, last I checked, were still denying any possibility of foul play in the Metrojet crash despite the other investigative entities concurring that an explosive device caused the breakup. Between that and Egypt Air 990, who knows if we will ever know the truth. With holiday travel to/from Egypt already at a severe low after the last incident, one would think that an investigation into this accident that is anything but factual can only hurt tourism and the Egyptian airline industry worse than revealing what indeed occurred, foul play or not.
I have to wonder though, if the IS claim is true, why an A320 going to Egypt? This isn't Sharm El Sheikh. This is CDG, a globally massive airport with flights all over the world. If one were able to get a bomb onto a plane here, why this flight? Though as the plane stopped in Eritrea and Tunis then Cairo before landing in CDG, perhaps any device could have been loaded there. Many questions, but like the recent Westair Sweeden CRJ-200 crash showed us, a freak accident with no foul play could very well cause an airliner to dive right into the ground out of cruise. So we will just have to wait for the report, like always.
Unless you follow Donald Trump on Twitter, because he already knows what happened:
"Looks like yet another terrorist attack. Airplane departed from Paris. When will we get tough, smart and vigilant? Great hate and sickness!".
Because Paris.
