Drinking Age on Airplane?

She said that since the airline is KLM and based in netherlands, it follows their laws?

True? False?

If that logic were valid, then prostitution would be legal on all flights destined for Nevada. :)

FALSE

Laws observed are the laws over which territory the flight operates. From the time that the airplane passes 12 miles from the coast of the US until it reaches a point 12 miles from the next country, it will be in International Territory, and International Law will apply.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe there is an International Drinking age. It would fall then to the policy of the airline, and not the law of the state of destination.

Try calling the airline and asking the question - - that should provide an hour or so of cheap entertainment. :)

Not true...Taiwan is a haven for pedophiles.Americans by the dozen go there to have sex with underage boys and girls. Taiwanese officials know it goes on but don't do anything about it as the sex trade brings in a crap load of money annually. But Americans engaging in said behavior can and have been arrested here in the US for there criminal actions in Taiwan!

Uh.....what?

Perhaps you mean Thailand? Big difference, even though I know we yellow people all look alike to you.

Anyway, this is what I think will happen to all the people talking about drinking on a flight.

Haha cool. End in end though, seems like a good chance of drinking allowed.

And no guys, arent planning on drinking alot. Maybe a beer, but no hard liquor.

Also, is there something that prohibits one from drinking while being in an exit row?

Well, ahh, actually, yes. When you sit in an exit row, you must consent to the conditions and restrictions placed thereupon. Primarily you must be able to assist in an evacuation by removing the exit door, placing it as instructed, and then assist others in exiting the airplane. You must be able to hear and speak commands in English. If you are unable to accomplish those tasks, you will be reseated.

Would alcohol impair your ability to fulfill those responsibilities?

Again, you should consult the airline for their specific policy.

f/a's dont give half a **** if you're 21.

i've never seen anyone get carded on a plane, and many of them hadn't needed a razor in their life.

I got carded non-revving back in my regional days! Seriously!

And Bigey, stay off the booze, bro! It's not good for ya.

depends on your body weight/composition.. if your skinny, then one beer might give you a higher alchohol content than if you have some fat on you...

so you say you "don't" feel the effects after one beer - which means you've already had a beer to find that out...even though you think you don't feel the effects, your body does - why do you think those who have had 2 beers get into a car and are pulled over for drunk driving? probably because those 2 beers went over the .08 alchohol level..and the fact that "well, i don't feel drunk" has absolutely nothing to do with it...

one beer can easily top the .08 alchohol limit.. that's why when you go out, you always wait a certain amount of time, even after the first and only beer, before getting into a vehicle.

see - now here's the problem with this whole thing - you haven't done your research to even determine the amount of alchohol you can absorb before hitting the 0.08 level...now, if you'd done a simple internet search on "level of alchohol by weight" you would have found this - EASY as pie to find along with a ton of other alchohol knowledge information - http://www.jhu.edu/~health/bactable.html

stop for a few minutes and do your own research on the subject...don't keep asking us for our opinion.. it's your body.. if you want to start damaging it early, by all means, don't let us stop you. truth be known, you'll start drinking at some point.. the question then will be "will you know when it's time to stop?" because there are way too many people that never learn that.

Thanks for the link.

The thing i was trying to see is if they allow a person to operate a vehicle at .08 then it would be safe for someone under that to operate the emergency exit and such, if needed.

Not what the effects of alcohol and driving or such may be. The whole point of this thread is just to see the legality portion of it. I try to keep my decision making open and clear. Not my idea to get drunk on the flight, just clarifying that up.

Also, i wouldnt say i would be damaging my body if i had a beer/glass of wine over a 20 minute span.

Now since im younger, i dont have as high of a tolerance as someone who has been drinking for 20 years or anything, nor is my body as matured internally as a full grown adult. Now i've read cold syrup can give you a .02 alc. blood reading - which is what my weight, and drink level shows up on that chart. So if anything, keep it in moderation and i think i'll be fine.

Jesus max, where do you get this weight from?

Haha

That's beyond bones there, im skinny, but not THAT much.

165 pounds and reppin it!

6'1

i wish police departments would account for tolerance... im 5'10 140 so the alcohol chart table thinger says i can throw back 3 cold ones in an hour and be illegal (above .08 if i were really 21). it takes at least 6 for me to start noticing a loss of motor control. granted, noticing a loss and having a loss are 2 different things, but I guarandamntee that I'm a better driver with a *couple* brews in me (i was an idiot in high school) than a majority of morons on the road today.

while we're on the topic of being an idiot, whats the word on that american pilot that was drunk over in gb?

Was on a northwest flight to Amsterdam, then a connecting flight to vienna......Did not get carded. Technically if KLM is codeshare for someone I beleive it applys by that countries rules...for example KLM was codsharing with my northwest flight, but technically still an american carrier so went by there rules......still not likely to get carded though. try it

"Dear Dough...

I was 14 years old flying with my parents to Munich and I got drunk and made an doofus of myself on an airplane..."

I was 12 when I first got a drink on a plane (it was baileys and cream when I asked for hot chocolate). I was non-rev too flying alone, first class domestic.

Those where the days!
