Delta Planes Collide at KORD

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

Let's all be careful out there.

Look for cameras/mirrors to be installed so they can blame the pilots in the future.

Pushback crews fault.... You get what you pay for. When D-0 becomes the holy grail, people let that word "safety" drop to the floor.

No bonus for being safe, but discipline for being late. Push, push, push.

You slay me Boris.

I'd like to add something as well. Something something something, trite crap, more trite crap, ygbkm reference to aviation and we are all together blah blah blah.

I don't know what YOU'RE talkin bout, Hoosier, I just want us all to be safe out there. Death is lurking behind every release, with sharp, pointy fangs.

I think it nibbled me bum!

I have an imaginary friend who stopped an airplane from being pushed into a pickup truck today by a ramper in a ZOMGZ DEE ZERO situation. Which is why my imaginary friend has a policy where he doesn't care what time D-0 is, he just works his ass off to get the plane out as fast as possible in one piece and if he makes it he makes it, if not, everyone's intact and we passed a possible audit. Imaginary, of course, because in real life its safety and policy first no matter how late the plane is. Yep.

[O&M/] Your imaginary friend is paid by the company to disregard all factors with the exception of D-0. By injecting morals into the situation you are wasting the companies money which is not your place.[/O&M]

I don't know what happened but if the flights blocked out at D-0 then why were the push crews still rushing during the actual push back?

Having come from the CAL system which does a pretty good job with ground operations the Southernjets operation is frustrating. I'm yet to figure out where the deficiencies exist.

Because some of us require 5mph on the GPS to show out.

That sucks. Never knew that one. The E-170 just requires all the doors to have been shut and parking brake to have been released.

Life is so much easier without acars. It is amazing the how much better the airlines are at blocking out on time that don't have acars. :sarcasm:

Didn't it used to be D+5 and A+14 was considered ontime?

Um...

Once that door closes...and the clock starts...it doesn't matter how quickly the push happens. D0, is or is not met, by the time the door closes and the parking brake is released.

So, no...stop blaming it on D0 (as ridiculous as an initiative THAT is when companies lack the appropriate resources), blame it on the human beings and the factors surrounding the incident (re: human factors).

Good luck, check your six and stay away from any A380 or Delta mainline jet if you're in a "Regional Jet."

And yeah, I work for a company that doesn't require 5mph on the GPS to note the time. Main passenger door closed - Parking Brake released...time started...if it takes us 40 minutes to push or close the cargo door - we are getting paid, and it's our block out time.

Still, once again - no excuse.

Didn't it used to be D+5 and A+14 was considered ontime?

I think the D+5 is a DOT statistic indicating on time departure, and A+14 is considered on-time as well...our mainline partners for us respect D0 and A+14 as on-time, anything else is a performance hit.

Does that affect your pay? Like now they're not including engine start in the block time?

Funny, at a certain major airline that must remain nameless that operates a large number of Boeing 757-200s among other airliners, the flight is considered blocked out (i.e., Captain's money meter is operating) by ACARS when the doors are closed and rotating beacon is turned on. Everything else is, to the guys/gals in front, "gravy." I guess the ramp has different performance metrics?
