But other times, it may be a topic that we could . . . shed some light on.

Not that an airplane has EVER landed on a closed runway.
Not like what? RJ pilots who have it all figured out and think lecturing Delta pilots on a web board is going to solve the worlds problems, and then have the audacity to act surprised when somebody begs to differ? Got it. Good luck with all of that.
Totally relaxed, turn my lights off when not moving, turn them on when moving. Sorry RJ guys, you'll have to find a way to press through it. Perhaps you will have more luck if you start a thread to Delta management about how you want a lights on policy change..........
I wish I had the time for 12,000 more posts, but it just ain't gonna happen.

At least in ATL this has hardly been limited to DAL. As a matter of fact some of the taxiways there have been used as temporary runways complete with ILS's.Or, in the vein of this conversation, "Not that a Delta jet has ever NOT landed on an OPEN runway." I'm guessing the crew of DAL60 just couldn't differentiate between the taxiway and runway because of a lack of a combination of illuminated aircraft taxi, landing and strobe lights. Must have been so confusing.
I agree with the OP. If you're not required to have the lights on, and it doesn't impact safety or being legal... turn the lights off for the sake of others. I think we all try to be courteous, but 7 pages worth of babbling on the subject is nothing short of retarded.

I'll vouch for brakechatter as I know him outside forum world, though mostly in passing. Very good guy, good pilot, and a pilots advocate.

DEEZ NUTS.Whose nutz?
Jeez. Didn't take lng for this thread to degenerate into a train wreck of different pilot groups slamming each other. Given the title I'm not surprised.
It was a fun discussion. Seriously!
Enlightening for sure!
2/2 airlines (and 3/3 aviation jobs), numerous jump seat rides, four type ratings, can confirm: dip-**** behavior is everywhere.Oh wow. So I guess it's true. RJ pilots aaare nothing but a bunch of piss poor dipshat pilots. But when they get hired at Daddy D, all of the sudden they're not. Got it.
