Delta Disqualifiers

Acquisition = staple?
That tactic is no longer legal.

Mine was a 2.3 because I skipped a lot of class and half-assed a lot of stuff.
Not Delta Material™ now or ever. Wait. What? :cool::p

I think that's the point. Every one those 12000 applicants are capable of piloting Delta's airplanes. But how many are capable of taking command of 350 passengers, and 14 crew members?

Think of military officer recruitment and pilot selection. They're not just looking for Check Yeager. They're looking for someone who can lead a crew, a flight, or a squadron. They need people who can assess a situation, determine what's needed, make a plan, and delegate responsibilities...sometimes in a matter of seconds. The airlines are looking for those same qualities in their pilot candidates, and so they have come up with their own methods of teasing them out.

Anyone can be trained to manipulate stick and rudder. But how many can be a John Testrake?
They should do all of us a favor and not hire Mr. Yeager, really.

Ditto. My aviation stuff was pretty good, but the other classes I attended maybe 50% of the time. Definitely something I'd like to do over now that I'm all grown up.

Really the only thing that chaps my ass on my transcript is the F I got in CFI groundschool. I had something like a 97% in the class, but because I didn't have enough money to finish flying in that semester they gave me an F.

I think that's the point...etc etc.

Yes, 12,000 applicants, ONE VICTOR. Can he leap tall buildings in a single bound? Can he make the split-second, life-or-death decisions which constantly confront the steely-eyed Men of Iron whose steady hands guide the thundering Sky-Dragons through the turbulent trade-lanes of the Sky? Is he truly capable of COMMANDING a crew, of shaping a motley assortment of wagon dragons and clueless copilots in to A WELL OILED MACHINE? In short, is he, can he BE...DELTA MATERIAL?

We're not sure, let's check his basket weaving grades.

Honestly, it's getting just a weeeeeeee bit deep in here.

I just read this to my Dad. There was a snorting sound made and other commentary.

Undergrad summa cum laude and a graduate degree with a 3.9 GPA. Currently a 4.0 in my second graduate program...

No call...but I have had guys do the additional steps. Granted, I consider my military service about the pinnacle of my volunteerism. If it takes me a while longer to get a call, that's fine. I'll update airline apps and add all the volunteerism stuff I've done as a condition of my military service (VA hospital visits, adopt-a-highway, American Red Cross blood drives) to the achievements block.

The time will come...
