Delta Disqualifiers

Did you not understand the wink?
Oh, I got it. Just think a bunch of you are getting wrapped around the axle. Regardless of how many "tier 1" new hires there are, they gotta fly with Derg and me. And there are a crap ton of other junior captians just like us who will set them straight. Just wait til @Trip 7 flies with me.

Not all. My husband had a friend who was taking flight lessons and his wife was too. His wife was sick one day and the plane/instructor were booked. He asked my husband if he wanted to go as a treat. He did and was hooked at about age 28. He clawed his way attaining ratings while working. At age 37 he was hired at his first of two 121 jobs.
Key word in my post was "most of us".

Believe it or not, I was in CUN when that was typed!

The sun had gone done so I do have an excuse. The daytime was better...

What's your shoe size

No lying

You're making $210-plus and an impressive amount of profitsharing as a 320 captain? Impressive! :) Stay!

Impressive considering the rate was $139 at the time of the merger. Sis-in-law's bf pulled in $420K+ last year for the same seat. Wonder if he set a new record?

From what I've seen you're laid back and unpretentious. Not what I usually see from the south guys.

Some fNWA guys are pretty grumpy. Me, for instance.

In fact, I have a whole "Richman's Scale of Grumpage Alerts". To wit:

Grumpage Alert Levels In ascending order of grumpiness:

Eh?
Meh.
Phhttt.
Hrmph.
Bah!
<censored>

One doesn't necessarily have to pass through each alert level. Sometimes you can jump levels, depending on who you are talking to. <Censored> is generally reserved for those who have their idiocy polished to a high sheen. The Richman Scowl of Doom(tm) is generally not far behind.

This is true. I sat behind him at the BOD and can confirm. :)

Just so I can join in the pity party, I have a 2.8 undergraduate GPA (in a fuzzy major, even) and a "smudge mark" on my military flying record that requires I check some containers on AirlineApps that means the Delta algorithm probably won't be picking my name out of the stack.

/sarcasm....but true data.

That shouldn't be a problem. My GPA was 2.7. Guys are making a far bigger deal about the education thing (the length of time and GPA) than it is. They look at the overall package (giggity).

I certainly understand that HR needs to make the 12,000 application stack more manageable by weeding people out, but it sure would make a lot more sense to weed people out by, you know, actual flying qualifications.

I think that's the point. Every one those 12000 applicants are capable of piloting Delta's airplanes. But how many are capable of taking command of 350 passengers, and 14 crew members?

Think of military officer recruitment and pilot selection. They're not just looking for Check Yeager. They're looking for someone who can lead a crew, a flight, or a squadron. They need people who can assess a situation, determine what's needed, make a plan, and delegate responsibilities...sometimes in a matter of seconds. The airlines are looking for those same qualities in their pilot candidates, and so they have come up with their own methods of teasing them out.

Anyone can be trained to manipulate stick and rudder. But how many can be a John Testrake?
