Delta Air Lines job fair vs internal rec

Q: If you have not been to a job fair, but do have an internal rec (HR letter sent), does attending a job fair help your chances of getting an interview?

I have seen varying opinions on this, and was hoping someone actually knows the answer. If a job fair doesn't get you any brownie points, but rather just gets your application scored, then if you have an internal HR letter sent it seems like the job fair would not be worth it.

I know there are other reasons to go (you might actually have fun?) but with the financial burden, I would rather not if it wont help my application. If it will help my application, then of course I will go.

So, does anyone have knowledge of this (not just a guess)?

Thanks

When I went to OBAP, I was handed a card by the recruiter after our chat that explicitly stated my presence at OBAP would not increase my chances. Doesn't get much more clear than that it would seem. There is of course a certain someone here that can answer unequivocally.

This was also true of the event at the hangar.

Frankly, I like going to these things to see my friends. NGPA, for instance, is a great time.

Protip: One per year is more than plenty. There are no ridiculous "points" or extra consideration (read: benefit) for number of times you've been.

Visit once, they're going to have a look at your application and, well, it's "beneficial" if you meet certain metrics/qualities.

If your app is scored and doesn't meet the minimums, but then you upgrade or become checkairmen, etc...
Would you still have to wait a year to be rescored or do certain checked boxes trigger an automatic rescore?

"App scored"?

Yes

Okay, so if I have already had an HR form/letter sent by an internal rec, then attending a job fair insofar as it concerns getting an interview, will not help me. Correct?

Thanks.

Forget you've ever heard the word "score".

Seriously.

Can you confirm that 2 Delta pilots score the application? Also confirm that the team reviews and scores the application to find a highly competent pilot?

If not "score" then how does Delta call out applicants to interview?

I see scored, scoring, and scores. That's just about every variation of the word "score" ;)

That is an inaccurate interpretation. You can either argue that or get the job, your choice.

Doesn't matter what you "think", things are what they are and if you thirst for understanding, you're going to have to trust me on this. Or not.

Incorrect, with certain qualifying factors.

An internal recommendation does not mean you're going to have your application looked at.

Performing well at a job fair WILL get your application looked at.

That's all my friend has the ability to divulge.

His tips:

- Complete the application. READ the question, ANSWER the question in the most literal sense possible.

- Make sure you have a complete employment/unemployment history.

- Make sure you have a complete address history. If you lived in a car for two months, well, state that.

- Join the Delta Pilot Recruitment Facebook page. If you ask a question, you're getting an direct answer and the people who run the page are two recruiters and the Manager of Pilot Development.

- All of the third part guidance and "gouge" that's out there is pretty much obsolete 1/1/2017. I heavily advise you to interface with that page.

- Attend a career fair next year. Not all of them. Not multiple, but try to interface with the pilot selection team and you will see results.

- Shut up @Cherokee_Cruiser, go color. :)

Derg, I understand what you are saying. But I went to OBAP and saw Delta. And I was told (as heard by my ears) specifically that my goal was to try and get my application to score as high as possible when they review it, and the way to do that was to try and meet certain things they give points to. One example I specifically heard my Delta guy say was that a 3.0 or higher GPA would score a certain point metric that would definitely help. I told him my actual GPA (2.9) and he noted it was in engineering. I was told by the Delta rep I saw in my interaction that the app was scored and if I met a certain threshold for a scored app then that triggers an interview email. Again, not to argue or say you're wrong, I'm just telling a straight up of my experience.

Aren't some people seriously over analyzing and overthinking the process of getting hired at Delta? One would think this were some kind of application to be the crew of the next moon mission or something. Sheesh...

@Cherokee_Cruiser

For the love of all that's good with the world, why are you trying to debate me on the topic?

There. Are. NO POINTS.

If your experience is more than a few months old, it is literally obsolete.

Yes, your experience is the original iPhone cable. But we've got lightning connectors now. VHS in a world of streaming media.

It.

Has.

Changed.

People there is a basic lack of understanding of how fluid the system actually is.

It's literally "If I buy this Oster Toaster Oven, how many S&H green stamps am I supposed to get?" in 2017?

Fair enough. It is 2017 now and with more continuous hiring, changes to make things better/stronger is always good. :)

Edit: I removed the picture above if it's no longer true info, no point in someone getting the wrong impression.
