DCI Shuffle

I know H.T.M.L. (How To Meet Ladies)
I'm just wondering if anyone at any of the other DCI carriers, specifically ExpressJet/Skywest/GoJet is hearing any of the ridiculous rumors that are going around at 9E about a shuffle of DCI flying.

People around the 9E camp seem to think that the company is now the lowest cost DCI carrier (even lower that GoJet) and RA is playing that against everyone. Everyone seems to think 9E is keeping their 200s, ExpressJet loses theirs to keep on track with DL scope for the B717s, and GoJet is no longer a DCI carrier with 9E taking on the 22 700s. I mean I know 9E is the lowest cost carrier but none of that flying is really up for bid yet is it? 2014 is the date I heard for the GoJet flying. I know nothing of the ExpressJet agreement so maybe it is up for bidding?

Just interested to hear what kind of crap is being spread at some of the other carriers. People seem to think that 9E is now Delta's favorite since we readily and overwhelmingly bent over and took it. Oh and we have Gumm now. RA's newest puppet.

Sorry guys. I voted no.

Never believe rumors at 9E until you see things in a bid pack, in a press release or see the airplane parked on the ramp. Even the press release can be iffy. For a while, the rumor was we were buying jetBlue. Yes, there were check airmen in MEM that REALLY thought that was going to happen since jetBlue was fresh off the Valentine's Day issue, losing money and had just had their CEO step down.

If this DOES happen, it's gonna suck for pretty much everyone involved. But, hey, at least everyone will know for sure if you willingly bend over for Daddy Delta, you'll get rewarded. Kinda like getting a large monetary tip for being the best prostitute on the corner I guess.....

Trust me I never believe the rumors. Just wondering if anyone at other carriers can think up this ridiculous stuff as well.

Apparently this rumor all hinges around some FAA inspector going to JFK to check out the 700 MX base for PCL. Who knows. I'm still leaving ASAP.

If it's in JFK, I hope this new 700 MX base has better working conditions than our old MX area. I'm surprised those guys haven't gotten lung disease from the mold....

It gets worse as the airline gets larger.

We were going to pick up MIA from AA so we need to sign the contract ASAP to free up Delta to pursue pieces of American. It was a "unique opportunity" we were told by some in union leadership.

We were picking up some A-321's from Kingfisher and acquiring Hawaiian for their A330's and Haneda slots. We really want to crank up our Pacific operation.

Talks of an RFP for a widebody order, deets coming down in six to eight weeks, "I heard it from a Line Check Airman and RA was jumpseating to Boeing and told my captain friend about the details".

"We're going to hire 3000 pilots in the next few years (nevermind we just had a displacement bid)"

Now those are the rumors from the last two months.

It's always "the night before the prom" in the airline business. Gossip and rumors galore.

It's normally the things you DON'T hear about that happen. Pinnacle did it twice while I was there, once with Colgan and again with Mesaba. Hell, less than 12 hours before the XJ announcement, everyone was convinced it was Skywest buying them. Pinnacle wasn't even a blip on the radar. Other ones are SWA/Airtran and Delta's interest in Virgin Atlantic.

I think it's a mix and because of that ya just never know. Some come true, some don't, and sometimes it just comes so far out of left field that nobody thought of it.

I kind of agree, and kind of disagree.

For example, Delta+NWA, UAL+CAL, and AMR+LCC all violate this rule of thumb.

Sure, but you have to admit all three of those were WELL beyond the rumor stages when they finally happened. By the time NWA/DL merged, I was sick to death of hearing about it. It wasn't a vague rumor that would pop up occasionally. It was on the nightly news in Memphis about every two or three days. Same with UniCal and AmeriWays. If somethings going to happen overnight (like a DCI shuffle), you won't hear about it. That's how Delta likes to play it based on past experience.

You should have hung out in MEM with all the check airman coming and going out of headquarters.

What they do at Southernjets when they want to 'float' a rumor is via line check airmen or the "Left Seat" program where only captains are brought to HQ to meet the CEO and go through a "Welcome to the left seat" type program.

Lots of suits, a catered lunch and lots of talk about "four to six weeks, RFP's for orders... Don't put this on the internet but here's something proprietary because you're "special", blah blah blah!"

:)
