DCA to get 50 Cirrus

I kinda have a feeling ATP is gonna get a 135 deal going with those jets. Doubt they will be flying them around just for training...

they should ask our maintenance department how much the Cirrus rocks as a trainer :-P. I love that airplane (no sarcasm), did my CFII in it, but its a horrible trainer. I dont think they're supposed to be flown as often, and with as many takeoffs/landings as they do at big schools. That and I think putting someone in a cirrus for their initial training is a horrible idea. Advanced training wouldn't be a bad idea though. I still believe that instrument should be done old skool though.

Being that DCA and I are on such great terms, sure! :)

Actually, the guy that had problems with you on this webite is no longer here. He is running the another program as you well know. While the new president is Gary Beck a senior VP and Chief Pilot of DAL. Things are changing around here. The cost of the program will not go up that much. The program is going to be altered as well to eliminate cost overruns as well. The program with the Cirrus aircraft will be done with part 142 training in which it will involve quite a bit of simulator time in a Level 6 sim before the students climb in to it. Also, there will be more long distant cross country time.

The sharper MAPD peeps could solo the Bonanza in 15-20 hours. The average being in the 25 hour range. I would think the SR20 would be a lot easier than the Bonanza, but that's just IMO, having only flown an SR22 for 1.0. No prop, no gear, lighter, newer plane etc.

I think it's funny RedBaron said the cost of the program won't go up much, but then says they will be using a "quite a bit of simulator time". Well duh. ERAU did the same thing. They are moving toward having students that graduate with COM/SEL+MEL Inst logging in the nature of 100 hours flight time. Poor bastards.

Doug, does that mean your boss's boss is now head of DCA?

Regardless. I'd still like to see something official from DCA from the hassle and heartache they put me through.

Until then, I presume they're not apologetic.

And Gary Beck retired. They could put my mom as CEO of DCA and the sentiment stands.

I totally agree with you. I wish some idividuals at DCA hadn't been such ass's. I guess they're doing fine continuing to pilage their students wallets! :yar: They did a good number on mine! I did come away with some good knowlege and experience, and some future references, so it wasn't all for not. I think they dumped a bunch of senior people to free up some cash for those new shiny planes. I'm dead serious!

Hell yeah it's serious. Serious as a heart attack. They treated me like a damned dog and I'm supposed to "let bygones be bygones" because Raker's gone, they're supposedly 'cleaning things up' and got some shiney new aircraft?

P'shaw.

I never even got a retraction or an apology for the "Doug's on the outs..." speech that the previous marketing official said in live, in public, in front of a crowd of people and then denied making even though three witnessed emailed me.

And that was BEFORE the latest incident where they threatened to have me fired.

Bad blood? Ya sure yoobetchya.

I might not even be going to GEG after all. Massive flight delay and a short layover!

Copied from the AOPA forum, posted by thito01:

"I just talked to some DCA students. Here is the new DCA rules.

-All students will do their Private and IFR checkrides at the same time.
-All students will have 100 hours in the SR20 prior to solo.
-All solos will be after 100 hours
-After private/IFR check-ride, students will get time on old steam guages.

I see a problems with this, but I bet all DCA sees is $ signs because of all the dual required."

WOW, just wow, I toured this place 2 years ago (just cause i was in Sanford) and it creeped me out. This just took it from creepy to a cult.

Will they solo another aircraft like a skyhawk in a more timely fashion before 100 hours? Or is the only solo going to be at 100 hours in the cirrus?

I think that any school that trains initial pilots in a part 142 program is evil. Long term, the results from this can't be good. The only people that benefit from this is the school, as once you get very far along into something like this, you can't afford to leave. Where are you going to take 100 hours of sim time?

I can't wait until people like this go 'jet direct' with 100 hours of actual airplane time. I can hear it now "I'd take the sim super pilot over the flight instructor that spent 1000 hrs in the pattern any day..."
