DCA near miss Delta/Bluestreak vs AF T-38

Let’s turn Andrews into a second commercial airport and turn DCA into a “helicopter carrier.”

If a congresscritter or their hostlers want a rapid trip to a jjjet they can take one of them electric VERTOL things from DCA to either IAD or ADW.
That is objectively a great idea, as Andrews is still much better than IAD for the DCA area.

It’s more than that. Having a metro station at Dulles is nice.

It is still an unreasonable walk from the metro to security. They really hosed that one up.
The Link station at SeaTac is well off the terminal owing to post-September 11 hysteria too.

I used to use the Heathrow Express back in my corporate days. Way better than spending two hours getting mild whiplash in stop and go traffic. It would knock 45 minutes off the livery car trip.
There were a few occasions where my fiancée beat us to the layover hotel via the Express when she’d go with me (when I was working the flight) to LHR.

Why didn’t she go on the van with you guys?

Not really related, but I did a YYZ trip not long before the big roll over crash, and one of the FAs brought her husband along. I had a ton of CAD in my wallet from previous personal trips to Vancouver and the island, which I was hoping to drop as a tip for everyone rather than us all tip in USD (I guess in Toronto that's probably less annoying to be fair). But she paid the van driver both ways pretty well. So damnit, I still have like 40 CAD in my wallet, that now joins the Turkish Lira thats been in my wallet for over a decade, the Euros, and I think some other currency that escapes my memory. Something tells me that I won't be bidding any other YYZ trips anytime soon, even though they were easy grabs recently. Really liked that layover BTW. RIP Toronto layover

I got a second, bigger, wallet and some dime bags from Amazon and put all that spare foreign currency in my luggage. It really annoyed me for the loose cash to be unorganized or in my wallet. Reminded me of that seinfeld episode.

Do you know how many Iraqi dinars I have?

I also have money that doesn’t exist b anymore. Thank you Euro.

Tbf I get tcas RA’s literally every day over the most benign situations. TCAS is so sensitive now that overflying a VFR by 500’ with both level is almost a guaranteed RA. I get RA’s cause someone levelling off 1000’ below you climbed at a higher rate than normal. I’ve had RA’s climb people to avoid the VFR and into the IFR traffic above them causing a cascade of RA’s for 3 planes.
i don’t think operational parameters/tcas mode envelopes have really changed (outside of maybe some aircraft being able to fly AP on RAs) i think the finesse of the operators and your airspace have changed.

Why doesn't someone step in and just ban all non-commercial aircraft from that entire airspace? There are other ways around.
if they plowed under the terminal and built 200 t hangars with a jet ban I would be the happiest lad in all the DMV

It's a 5 minute walk at most.

The Silver Line (no, not the BOS one) is a 20+ minute walk from the time you clear the secure area.
1. I don't live there, and-
2. Dulles definitely needs some work. They need to make the train work correctly, but...
3. New terminal being built, hopefully that's the first step in making it a much better place.
4. If I'm honest, I'm hearing a lot of "first world problems" in these complaints. I've done that walk. It is not 20+ minutes unless you're 80. I could go from the A terminal to well past the train station in 20 minutes.

DCA does not work. I knew that the first time I flew in there. I know there's a lot of widget folks here, so I may be in the minority here, but I'm wondering what banning the sale of connecting tickets would do to DCA traffic levels.

We would welcome the connecting traffic at the proper international hub down the road 😜
