DCA instructors get a HUGE pay increase!!

The pay rate has increased, and instructors will make a lot more than 20k a year. And yes ask anyone in the top regionals, they are losing an average of 20 people a month on attrition.

Uh, I believe I have a 2005 tax return that shows I only made 7K for the entire year working there. I carried 4-7 students the entire time and worked 18hr days. Fabio, you show me an instructor there that made 20K and I'll spend the rest of next month kissing your butt!

Rumor is the Comair contract has been cancelled due to Comair not being happy with the pass/fail rate.

Not true at all! In fact, Capt. Todd M (head recruiter at Comair) says he'd take 10 DCA guys over any number of pilots from the outside! In fact, this deal was just recently signed.

YAY where can I sign up to work for comair!?!?

Dude,

The pay increase just happened. I know it is late, but better late than never. It is no secret that the instructor pay used to suck really bad. But now, if you bill 70 hours per pay period ( that means briefs, ground work and flights) you can make over 20K/year. A CFI qualified instructor billing 100 hours per pay period will make over 50k/year... and CFI guys are billing over 150 hours per pay period. As a matter of fact the junior management and contract instructors are considering leaving their positions to hourly pay.

And your REALLY think this is going to fly with the "new" FO that gets hired at Comair and is lucky to top 20K the first year? I don't think so.

This means that if the CFI's stick it out they can hold out for a decent starting wage. I see the industry changing as we speak.

Even a skilled tradesman makes more in their first year (35K-50K) than at an airline.
Though an airline's wages passes the tradesman's wages up after the fourth or fifth year.
Hopefully we can all see starting wages grow in the industry.

It is a shame that after all the money spent on training, we don't see any light at the end of the tunnel until at least the fourth year in the industry. The loan repayment rates are like paying a mortgage.
Where do you live while only making 19K to 25K a year with a $900.00/ month student loan payment?

As I have promised, here is what I got from a reliable source at DCA today:

The get hired and then teach while keeping the seniority number deal is off.

"As I have promised"....

My hero.

You single handed defeated the evil DCA management in it's attempts to change the status quo of how to enter the aviation career.

Mad props, Fabio....

Now, can you do something about global warming?

I'm thinking the union brought some pressure on Comair to suggest this might not be a great idea. And that maybe "being owned by Delta" really doesn't mean everything....

Don,

I've got to confess that even in your hating sarcasm, you actually can get quite funny...

Global warming?!?!?! What's that???(joking)

I don't know if it was the union that put a stop to it, but I would place my bets on you on this one...

"1 - Prevent instructors from breaking their agreement and leave the school before their 800 hours of dual given time."

AGREEMENT are you KIDDING ME. You know just as well as anyone, that there is no AGREEMENT. DCA offers the "bridge program" to instructors who finish the 1000TT,800DG,100ME. There was never ever a contract, there are at least 5 instructors that i know personally, and i'm sure countless others who have asked for this "contract" to be showed, but it was never produced. Said "contract/agreement" DOES NOT EXIST.

DCA holds it's instructors to this agreement even though it doesn't exist. There was nothing that i EVER signed to say that i would stay for 1000TT, 800Dual, and 100ME. But at the drop of a hat DCA would threaten my job if i ever breached the "contract".

The only thing i, or any other instructor EVER received was as a student when i got an "award letter" saying that I would be AWARDED the bridge program when above hours were met and if i completed all my training with DCA.

Fabio, hopefully you will one day see, that your brainwashing by DCA is just another one of their ways to suck you in, so that they can use and abuse you.

Hello to everyone from APC, i couldn't resist posting on this issue though.

And is anyone else relieved that this DCA/Comair deal is dead?

Damned if you do and damned if you don't...If the pay is low, then it sucks because it is low, if it is decent then ..."it's not going to fly"...

Get over it...

You are right when you say that there is no written agreement anywhere. But the verbal agreement is made on Standz class, and anyone that has interviewed with me on the board can attest that I made this very clear. When RM offered me the manager position, all that was done was a simple Multi-Purpose form, and he asked me if I could give DCA a year. My answer was yes. No written contract, but I gave them my word. Perhaps that doesn't mean much for some people, but there are lots of "old timers" that can relate...

I was offered an earlier class (actually starting tomorrow on the 29th) but declined in order to keep "my agreement" and stay until the last week of November.

And Andy, just one more thing, "brainwashing" implies that something got cleaned(smirk!)

What do you care Fabio? Run away, HARD AND FAST. If you EVER come back with speedbars to talk to the new sucker students, I'll take you out back and beat you with a stick! I remember that one bald clown from comair that would come back all the time. Smart ass tried to stump me as a student by walking into my CFI class while teaching aerodynamics. He was lucky he walked out on his own. PUNK! I was not impressed.

You are getting quite funny in this Forum...

I see that guy all the time here in CVG. I laugh everytime I pass by him.:cwm27: He was like the DCA poster boy!

I'm sorry, maybe it's me..but i must've missed the part where it was cool for "morally correct" company to place instructors that either QUIT or were FIRED on their "pilot placement list"...DCA did a great job getting those guys jobs..i know some people who had interviews canceled because of DCA making phone calls..said instructors didn't want to finish instructing for free and they "broke the agreement"..

Let me re-emphasize that is an "AWARD LETTER" given to Deltoids as a student, to tell you about their wonderful bridge program...So the student gets hired as an instructor after going through every single rating and it's assumed by the company automatically that "ok i'll give you two years, 800 Dual given in airplanes, 100 multi engine hours, i'll pay for my MEI ($6K) and teach for 50 hours in a seminole"..NO!.. god forbid an instructor leaves..or wants to pursue other things...then there's threats of "blacklisting" and "ruining airline careers"...it happened to me..i was threatened by middle management, my opportunity to interview was threatened.

DCA is everything that's right with student training, and everything that's wrong with the pilot factory programs all rolled in one. Go to an airline, get a different perspective and then realize that DCA is pure bred corporate evil

They did the same thing to GM a few months ago. All the threats just made him run faster.

No written contract, but I gave them my word. Perhaps that doesn't mean much for some people, but there are lots of "old timers" that can relate...

Hey Fabio,
After my discussion with you concerning the wait times for stage checks, you assured me that there are no more waits for stages. It is Saturday evening and I was put up for stage on Thursday. Before scheduling closed...
I am an old timer and am very concerned about my word and what it delivers. Are you the same?

Remember the worst thing a man can lose is his reputation....

I am wondering when this snarl at stage checks is going to end? I am tired of waiting and waiting for stage checks. Whiule I'm on the subject of waiting, I have been delayed over three weeks in my training in CAMEL. What gives. There are instructors there who can fly everyday and yet I get an instructor who is so loaded with students that he can only schedule me every other day. BTW, that 3 week time line is only for solid gaps in traing and doesn't included the every other day of flight training...
What am I going to have to do to get the school's attention? It is the schools fault that my training is being delayed. Am I going to have to recoup my expenses from the school?

As of last week the stage check wait was zero... according to the flight standards department. Remember that they run the stage checks... are you sure your intructor got the stage check request form delivered to Scheduling on that time? If so they might have screwed it up. You need to come see me tomorrow in case you did not fly today...

As far as instructors that "can fly everyday with you" please tell me who they are and I will be glad to override and assign one of them to you... I did not gave you my word on anything, so be careful on how you phrase things... I told you there were not stage check waits... not that you were going to be scheduled the next day... and there is a difference.

Once the stage check request form is received by Scheduling, you will be up for stage the following day. But before that request is made, your instructor needs to do his job and make sure the paperwork is in order. Besides a mistake with paperwork or scheduling, I cannot see a reason why you did not get put up. In any way, come see me and I will solve your problem...

Hey Guys,

Hey Fabio,
Please PM or see me tomorrow with with this guys Stage/EOC issue as this should NOT be happening.

It is my understanding, and I check every morning on the wait for Stage/EOC tests, that the wait is a "Single Day". That means that once received the Stage/EOC will be set for the next day.. NOW, the next day may mean the second day if the schedule for tomorrow is already built. Over the last couple of weeks scheduling has been able to get Stage/EOC rides up in that time frame.
