You're not anonymous here, trust me! LOL.

But if you guys want to bully him, this is really the wrong environment because he could get picked up at AA or DL, be a widebody captain in a year then ya'll will REALLY hate on him. :)

No, no it doesn’t. Not when you write off entirely almost all the CA pilot group.

Typically, in an “everyone else is lacking! And everyone else sucks in leadership!” The problem is the FO making their statements.

I’m saying that as a captain. 97 degree day at DCA and the idiot that brings in an airplane 40 minutes late shuts down the APU.

We had a fun chat about it, because leadership

I know I’m not. Which is why I don’t write anything to make it personally offensive against someone, eg, by name itself.

Did he know it was a quick turn flight and not an overnight? Maybe they hooked up air conditioning so he shut the APU down?

Are you saying you actually pulled the CA over for that flight and lectured him on APU usage? Lolz

I don’t let this kinda stuff bug me. I get on the plane. If it’s too hot, I ask for the air to be pulled and start the APU. If it’s really hot, I’ll do the supplemental procedure and run packs on high.

Problem solved.

The only thing I say to the inbound crew is how were the rides, any new write ups? And have a great layover!

Every consider for a second that maybe he's getting bullied and actually has the fortitude to speak up about it?

I wish I did back in the day. I clearly ultimately won, but then I think I should have kept way more notes.

I asked my FO to immediately start the APU and go to full cold. I also did the walk around for the FO so he could do that and not get blasted by the APU noise.

Well if he truly feels that, it would be the most ironic of situations. I don’t mean to bully. But if you write off the entire CA group for lacking leadership, I don’t think it’s wrong to suggest perhaps the problem might not be all the CAs.

So someone got butthurt because the next captain inquired about the APU being off and the jet was hot?

Is that the evidentiary material?

Hey @derg, you ever laugh hysterically at the irony at some of the post from certain individuals on here?

What was the reaction? Introspection or a wholesale rejection?

I don't know, if someone said "ALL 350 PILOTS ARE NUTS" and provided an example, as an adult, I'd at least do some basic introspection before pleading innocence.

I know we had a cultural problem with pilots landing, flipping off the APU once the ground power comes online and leaving for the layover hotel when everyone beyond row 15 starts instantly roasting because "Well, it's not MY problem". So we were able to fix the issue by making "I'm burning that APU until we have sufficient ground air and when the company is tired of the fuel burn, they'll fix the ground air issue, but until then..."

Is there a possibility that he's right? I don't work there, I have no idea nor have I ridden your airline except for one time back in the early aughts.

Maybe. He is SEA based after all, and the home base is usually where the specials ones are. Still, I doubt it’s the entire base.

So if SEA is "usually where the specials ones are" (sic), are you open to the idea that, while not the entire base (because absolutes are absolutely weird of course), but is there a probability that what his issues are relevant to what's going on? Is there also a change that it's so ingrained in SEA that the mere idea of someone they perceive to be an outsider that's questioning the norms of said base is wholesale rejected?

I've been through my own phase of "You're a civilian/you're a Californian/you're a Yankee/you're b..b...b...bll... af...afric...uhh...uhh, not from here" from the ATL 727 group during the early days of my tenure at SouthernJets at well when I said "this isn't right and this needs to change". But it DID change and I was ultimately correct.

Thoughts?

Ooorrrrr it could be because it’s the biggest base…..

I'm sure there are some weirdos in SEA. But no way is it close to "the majority." Just as the stories of the ATL crowd at your shop, no way is it all of them. There's usually a handful ~2-5% at any airline, and they tend to be at the HQ base - but not always.

If you are asking me personally, I look at the overall picture. And the overall picture says just based on post history, there has been a continuous complaints of CAs at literally all the various places said individual has worked. That makes me believe the problem isn't all the CAs out there...

So your problem with the issue is that you took the word "all" in the literal sense. Now if he were to amend his statement to "many" or "potentially a majority" would it be more palatable for you?

At the end of the day, if there's an issue, it should be internally addressed and rectified.

You love to swipe at Delta, but if you saw the internal fissures, tribalism and infighting you would see we're not a lot different than any other airline.

But a professional understands the concept of 'constructive criticism', considers what's actionable and moves forward.

He might be right. And a majority of SEA captains MIGHT be wrong. That's for you guys to decide. Remember, it's a competitive environment both for pilots and customers, SouthernJets is more than happy to absolve you from both problems in SEA. Your choice.

But are you 4th generation Arizonan, Mr North Scottsdale? :)
