daily pic

Spent a week at KSC when I was doing Space Camp decades ago...got to see Discovery takeoff during that week too...it's a truly special spot.

Finally stopped raining in Milan on the day we leave.

Yes it is. I still miss those days as I fly over. Well, I miss some of those days.

Same. Sometimes sitting on the ramp in BET or OME or wherever I’ll see a Navajo take off and think damn that looks like fun, those were good times….then some snow blows in through the L1 door “we’re good to close and yes, I’d love some more coffee please.”

Amber and I took a little getaway for her Spring Break from school. We Got an Air BNB in Albany, Kentucky. It's a small, old town with even older towns and farms around it. We saw a sign for Byrdstown Business District and had to detour and go see it.

The town bell to sound alarms.

Here's the entire town.

We ate at a little Cafe on the left called (of course) Dixie's Cafe. Which had the best tasting food out of all the places we ate. Very good. Apparently using seasoning around here isn't a thing.

I had some time to kill yesterday and found myself over at Gravelly Point while DCA was running the river visual to 19. So I popped up FlightAware and looked at B6 flights coming in, took a few pictures and videos, and then looked up the crews and sent them the stills with links to videos.

They were all delighted to get these and it was kinda fun to do so I'm going to try and do this once in a while when I have time and the conditions are right.

Look at those systems. I wish someone would strip the skin of a jet and expose the systems like what was done with the old Bodies exhibit.

Not the same plane, but saw this and thought you’d dig it.

Over the weekend, I surprised the girlfriend (and mostly myself) with a voluntary trip down to Florida. I've despised the state personally, but once she saw MCO on the boarding pass I couldn't help but smile at her reaction -- she's jokingly talked about a Disneyworld trip since we've been traveling. It was like she had just won a car on The Price Is Right...at 4 in the morning.

Well, since the trip wasn't planned, Disney wasn't on any agenda, and I mentioned Cape Canaveral was only an hour drive away, she was all for it. Mostly to escape the cold up north.

But, the Kennedy Space Center Visitor's Complex is a sight to behold. It's nothing shy of breathtaking, and walking underneath those twin rocket boosters, and the fuel tank capable of emptying under nine minutes during shuttle launch sequence...

The whole thing got a smile out of me, and Catie was quick to point it out. "I love hearing you talk about this so passionately."

If you ever get the chance and haven't seen it yet, put a day in and bring your family. It truly is Disneyworld for adults, and it got me happy to see so many young humans running around learning all about NASA.
The CA Science Center is putting up a full stack with the tank, both boosters and Endeavor as if they're ready for launch. The boosters and tank have already been put in place and once the orbiter is mounted they'll finish the building that's going to house the whole thing. It's a monumental task made even more difficult due to its location. I plan on visiting once the installation is complete. I hope they use dry ice to simulate the venting of the propellant.
