If you make it past the come out roll, odds are you're winning. Overall including the come out roll, it still has ever so slightly better odds than the pass line. Taking heavy odds on your don't pass bet after a very modest risk when the odds were against you... well I like that better than a small bet when the odds are with you and then against you when most of the money is down.

After checking my math, the variance should be the same- but it does still require larger bets to achieve that.
