Do you think the GSI is the "field made" position from gliding point of view?

The field is "made" from a single-engine point of view. Only a sail plane could make it power off from GSI.

That is exactly what I mean. "Committed to land" might be a better term. In a VFR pattern, I have the "field made" when I can glide to it, so that's when I lower the landing gear. In an IFR approach, the gear comes down when I'm committed to land. For me, that point is GSI on an ILS.

if you are absolutely 100% going to commit to following the needles til you see or hit something, then i agree.

just dont decide later on that you want to try it again. :)
