Continental pilot dies in flight

Poor taste to use a thread about a deceased crew member as a means to discuss or protest a mod action. Anyone with issues, please take it up via pm. In the meantime please keep the thread on-topic or I'm sure we all know it's headed for the lav and/or will be closed.

i have been fallowing this thread, and it has gone from bad to worse. have some respect people.

RIP

It was going fine until the cat fight a page or so ago. I will tell you this, the "other place" was my first airplane forum "home". I really enjoyed it too - met CalCapt, Qgar, T-cart and some others - even got my first taste of the 'pede. Still some quality people there.

That said, I did go to the forum a couple days ago when this happened and was sickened by what I saw. Absolutely sickened. I am not a SCAB lover by any means, but it was bad. After seeing that, I was really thankful that I now have this as a "home". Great people and stuff - people you would actually have in your house - even the ones you get into heated arguments with. The moderation here is really good as compared to the "other place", which really seems like it went off the cliff after its sale. The Cargo forums and picture threads are great - but even the Cargo threads are getting a little emotional. So...even being one of the 1% who has gotten infractions (Thanks Steve C and Amber!) - they were totally deserved and hat tip to the mods. Unless you go over to the other place and see some of the stuff that was written about that incident (three or four locked threads worth) you won't have a full appreciation for JC. Just my opinion.

POORER taste to out a dead man as a scab. Lower than low.

So that's it? One less person with much experience in the industry on this Web site.

okay, so first this thread was about a pilot dying in flight. Then it turned to him being a scab. Now it's about a high profile member getting perm banned for whatever reason.

Either way this thread is a cluster, I'd think if one has questions about moderation one should PM an admin or mod. Originally I was gonna say start a new thread, but that's no longer proper forum etique!

Post 195 (or so)....Keep it on track....

Since then.....hardly a post at all about the topic.

And with that we are closed.

I'm not sure how long the timeout is as I've been trying to hype up the positives and worry about the negatives after I take care of everything else.

So... back to the topic at hand...

Even a private pilot? Ah the possibilities....

ATC "Flight 123 you are 6 miles from YOMAN maintain 2600' til established cleared ILS 22 approach"
.....silence....
Me: "I think that was for us"
Helper: "What was for us?"
Me: "That radio call...you're working the radio, right?"
Helper: "Oh man, I'm sorry, what did they say?"
Me: "Nm, I got it..."
...time passes...
Me: "Gear down please."
Helper: "Which one is the handle?"
Me: "The big one there on the panel, with the white handle."
Helper: "Oh, ok.....hmm, it doesn't want to go down"
Me: "You have to hold up the release and move it down at the same time"
Helper: "Where's the release?"
Me: "That little silver button right under the handle, hold it up."
Helper: "Ok....man, I'll have to use both hands.....ok, I got it"
....and then, this one would be fun....
Me: "Flaps 15 sync off condition levers 1050 landing checklist"
crickets
Helper: "heh heh, I'm sorry I have NO IDEA what you just said"

Sorry for the attempt at humor...I had a former student in mind when I wrote this. I think he's still afraid of the radios. Anyone with something more than a PP-ASEL that wasn't terrified of talking to ATC would be helpful though, and I'd imagine would be welcome after just having a colleague and possible friend die sitting next to you. I wouldn't be as focused as I needed to be, especially on a day like today with crappy weather.

RIP to the captain, and condolences to family and friends. :(

I find it hard to believe that even a PPL wouldn't know how to read a checklist or help on a flight deck in some way. To be honest, even a flight sim geek might be benificial for a single pilot.. with their bazillion hours of putting the gear up and down, I would bet they would know where to look for a gear handle.

I feel sad for the families that lost their dad/husband/grandpa?... 60 is just too young and so unexpected. :(

A mod closed this and Doug opened it back up, asking that we stay on track and stop with the snipes. Please prove him right.

thanks in advance

That's why it's a pain. Orville and Wilbur Wright can sign up for the website but they're still responsible for adhering to the guidelines of the website.

The chief pilot of Delta Air Lines, Inc could sign up for JC, but if he keeps violating the expectations I have for my community, he'd certainly get timed out.

I'm not sure what's so difficult about understanding this.

How many times must I say this?

Okay, well, here's something on topic:

You're the FO.

We've seen how a crew with another pilot aboard (for whatever the reason) would handle the scenario.

Your CA goes slack in his/her harness.

What do you do?
