A plane flying from Lexington, Ky.'s Blue Grass Airport to Atlanta, Ga., crashed shortly after takeoff early Sunday morning.

Comair flight 5191 was carrying 50 people on board - 47 passengers and three crew. It crashed a mile west of the airport in a wooded area, according to a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman.

There are a "significant number of fatalities," said Kathleen Bergen, a spokesman for the FAA in Atlanta.

The FAA believes a fire may have been associated with the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board is sending team of inspectors to the scene.
that's all that's out there right now...RIP.

CNN is now reporting at least 1 survivor.

Hopefully there will be more. Let's keep all of the crew, pax, and families in our prayers today.

Looks like the FO is in surgery....pray he does alright

Will be key in finding out what happened.

Be safe out there.

Well its been so long since the last accident in the US. I sure hope it wasn't because of using the wrong runway.

I'll be keeping the crew and pax in my prayers.

well, they're saying that the runway was appropriate to be used by a small aircraft like that and they mentioned something about a "hot fire". with it being one of the first flights of the day out of that airport, it could be more maintenance related because, i think - and don't quote me, if the runway was too short, they probably had enough distance to take off anyway even if it might have been a steep angle (unless the tail hit and that helped things along).

I saw the "delta information line" at the bottom of the CNN screen and my heart just lurched....

Praying for the FO over there and for the family members of the fatalities....such sad news so early in the morning!!
