Cirrus SR-20 was found in the woods this morning in Volusia County, FL.
The aircraft is to be believed that it had a Instructor and a Student on board, both died. The Airframe Parachute was deployed but did not help.
Thought to have taken off from Orlando Sanford Int Airport, they are looking into if the plane was for sure from a flight school there.

" Cirrus Sr-20 kit plane, you can build it yourself" Really? Its been said before but some reporters have no clue but I cant blame them. It would be like a pilot trying to report on brain surgery. RIP

This one really hits home. I knew the Instructor very well, just spoke with him the other day. He was a great guy, and always smiling. RIP to both of the pilots on board. :(

It could have worked just fine. The parachute is a safety feature, not a sure thing life saver. If the parachute works properly it is still as though the plane is being dropped 20 feet. There are a lot of factors for the parachute. Altitude, Attitude and Airspeed. the parachute deployment speed is 135.

RIP..that sucks. I was at the CRG location back in '02-'03...hopefully nobody I knew from there.

According to WESH, the airplane "spiraled off radar". I'd like to know how they determined that.

OMG

ADI!!!!!!!

he was my instructor back in private!!!!! my 1st instructor!!!!

I can't believe this, he was the nicest guy I know :(

Sad indeed. When I was at DCA a few weeks ago I had asked one of the instructors if anyone had ever deployed the parachute, he told me No but that there had been more than one instance where they had experienced a spin and it was the instructors call on weather to release it. He also pointed out the special honey comb seating material which he said was designed to absorb some of the force on impact. No telling what happened to these guys and now is not the time to speculate but one does wonder. Does anyone know how much altitude the Cirrus needs for the parachute system to correctly perform? RIP to all.
