We're in a constant meltdown. But that's how this type of flying goes.

I am not. We're due.
Yep, we were lucky during Crowdstrike and whatever happened a few weeks ago (early AM departures had serious but short lived paperwork issues) that didn't blow up into a huge issue. We've due for something, likely IT related and due to the poor planning of management.

See, I see the phrase “Christmas Meltdown” and start thinking about cellphone footage from multiple angles of a Costco-lookin’ passenger taking their stress out on the gate agent furniture or Mr Backwards Baseball cap trying to get some last shots in as they are escorted-away.

So I got to YubTub and search for “airport meltdown,” and one of two things happens:

Either I am disappointed with the result of a sea of “reaction” videos to the same three most-recent events, or I start watching and feel shame. It’s the same kind of shame as peeking into a random hospital room or finding a friend’s porn mag; “Fremdschämen” the Germans call it.

So good, this thread is about failure en masse.

Talking with a friend the other day and they mentioned they have the holidays off because "I'm too junior to hold holidays on."

Those boats, Corvettes and Captain's houses don't pay for themselves I guess.
At the eskimo the day of went senior for every holiday except Xmas. The problem if you are Junior is, the days around go junior. So you end up with a trip ending the day before and one starting the day after the holiday, and one day off in between which is fine if you’re local and depressing AF if you commute.

I was told by someone who deals with data for scheduling disruptions that far-away the number one day for pilat absences is the SuperBowl. For flight attendants it is Halloween.

From what I’ve seen, yes!

I’ve heard you can also use AI and someone’s work history to pretty much determine when they’re going to call in sick.

On the Flight Standards side, super senior FO’s bid to fly with line check airman for the ‘trip buy-off’ but if there’s no OE pilot assigned 48 hours out, there’s “high probability” they’re about to bang-out sick because they didn’t plan on actually working.

Have we talked before about the company looking at which captains have the most FOs call out sick?
