Changes to FAA written test

Just found out someone took the Commercial FAA Written and it hasn't changed much. This is great news!

My impression of the changes were the way the questions were being asked as well as the obvious increase in number of questions themselves in the FIA. As stated before, I took the FIA over 2 years ago and I scored in the 90% first time out. This time it was ugly :insane:

I had an DE I know ask me how the FOI was when I recently took it and I told her what I stated previously. She stated she had heard people were failing the test on a regular basis now. Well its just a matter of time before they get to the other test(pvt/comm) too. So anyone reading this get them done asap before the revisions to those occur too.

Personally I think the testing centers are loving it. Think about it, when anyone fails they've now doubled their profit. We can thank the FAA for lining the pockets of the testing centers. Guess its study hard and hope you don't get alot of screwed up questions on your test. Good luck everyone.

Thanks for the info on this. I still have to take the FIA, but I'm waiting it out. I'm using Dauntless' software, and the online updates make things a breeze. Definitely worth the $$...lets just hope it helps in the preparation.

There have been Major changes in some of the written exams lately. The major changes are in the FOI, Flight Engineer, and ATP. I took my FOI about two weeks ago and after getting 96 and 98's in the practice test I got a 64 on the FOI then I did the retake 2 days after and only passed with a 74. Not only did the I not go through the updates in the asa website but the questions are way different. THERE IS NO MORE MEMORIZATION OF THE SUPER DRY FOI.

I got an email from ASA last night and they have their new updates out. I think it was 17 pages for the FOI! That should help some.

This is the standard update for the FOI. I didnt look at this the first time I went and when I did review it, it helped me to pass but the questions on the actual test are not like the book or the update. Thanks for letting people know they have to check the updates before the test, I wish I would of know before but for future test applicants they have to study from the Instructor handbook well to pass with a decent score.

Honestly if the FAA really was concerned about applicants knowledge they would've redone the test and the process by which it is conducted. How about join the modern era and use computer simulation or visuals? But nope, they just add a bunch of faulty questions. At $150 a pop it sure seems like the only winner in this process is the testing centers.

This is a good example of why people for the most part hate government. Even when they try to fix something they screw it up. I'm going for round 2 on the FIA next week... ouch!

Just took the FIA written today, passed it no problem.
I used King FIA test prep, and majority of the questions are still from the "old" test.
The only thing new that I saw were endorsement questions.
Other than that, I feel like any test prep should be fine.

I am going to be taking my FIA within the next 2 weeks. Did that written change any or was it just hard?

Thanks that clears my mind a bit. I failed my FOI the first time around because of those major changes so I was worried about FIA, but this makes me feel a lot better.

Anyone taken the instrument recently? I see a post from A150K from March but am looking for any new gouge as I'm taking mine next month...one the long road to CFII! Thanks for any info.

I'm back with news! As previously stated, I took the FOI Feb 14 and failed with a 44. My study methods did NOT include 'rote' memorization but rather reading and understanding concepts from AIH, with practice tests coming from my universities test prep software. I was knowledgable enough to help tutor other CFI applicants for their CFI checkrides. I waited a while (out of frustration) to take the FIA and AGI, passing both with mid-80 scores.

A couple of weeks ago, I took the FOI again, after reading the AIH several times along with holding study sessions for other FOI students. We KNOW this information. However, I only passed with a 76, and others have failed. One friend took the exam at an entirely different location and recieved a 90-something, and mentioned he 'recognized' 50% of the questions from the test preparation software. I, however, didn't recognize anything from the software. I am unsure where these discrepencies are coming from, but it's frustrating for not only myself to have a low score (one that I don't feel reflects my knowledge) and also to see friends struggle. I'm still investigating, and will continue to update as things are uncovered. But for now, on to CFI practical!

Just took the FIA written. It hasent changed much, there were only about 10 questions I did not recognize. Mostly on regulations.

Had a student just take it, he had scores in the mid to upper 80s on the practice tests, then gets a 76 on the exam.
