Changes to FAA written test

Cool. In the words if a retired airline captain I know, "Congrats, you studied 16% harder than you should have."
 
I took the FIA this morning and got an 86% using Dauntless' software. Recognized most if not all the questions, save for a few regulation questions, particularly on 61.197 and 61.199, CFI renewals. I believe I studied the best way possible - instead of jut memorizing answers, if I got something wrong, or something I knew but couldn't teach, I looked it up in the appropriate FAA publication, studied it, and made sure I understood it through and through. With a pretty demanding full time non-aviation job, and while rebuilding my 92 civic's D series engine, I'd say i didn't do too shabby :)

edit: also noticed a LOT of questions on CPL maneuvers, ground reference maneuvers, regulations regulations regulations, and slip skid type questions.

Did anyone also notice that the questions were all in order? aerodynamics first, navigation (you're on a heading of whatever, which ADF reading, etc...) regulations near the end, and 4 weight and balance questions right at the end? 5 written tests and have never seen this before. was a welcome change.
 
Had a chance to go through my PLT codes.

I used Dauntless' software for the FIA and it was missing these that I got wrong on the test:


PLT386 PLT411 and PLT416

I have been updating daily. So those also using Dauntless, keep this in mind. On a promising note, of the 14 questions I got wrong, I didn't recognize any of them when reviewing with the software...so at least my wrote memorization skills are on par! :D

How long did you guys study for the FIA? I just began studying last night. Jesus Christ....that shiz is hard.

My flight school has a two week ground school in which all we do is work on cfi briefs and study fia and foi. I didnt want to take the test though, since i knew they had changed some things up. So i just really reviewed everthing the night before. There are def a bunch of tricky questions though, espesially the endorsments..
 
Oh okay. It might be a little different for me then. I'm using ASA Prepware....but even still....lots to know.
 
Yea I was going thru Sheppard Air prep and the Instrument section has alot of ADF crap!!! I am knocking thru the W&B now and then will be taking practice tests until I am scoring atleast a 95 then off to the big house to tackle the real deal.
 
I took my FOI on 10/6 and it went alright. I used the Gleim test prep software and read the Aviation Instructors Handbook. The test prep software helped a little bit but I would suggest reading and highlighting from the AIH. I was making high 80's and 90's consistently on the prepware but only saw a few of the questions that were on the software on the actual written. Also you'll notice if you use the same software that several of the questions will be exactly the same but the answer choices will be different. For that reason I would definitely suggest learning this information using the book rather than memorizing the questions and answers from a test prep software...just my 2 cents. Best of luck!

I used the ASA CFI test prep and was consistently in the HIGH 90's when studying. I took the CFI (FIA) written last week and scored an 81 - my lowest FAA score to date. I saw about 15 questions I'd never seen before, questions that were neither on the ASA test prep CD or in the Gleim book. Most of these questions concerned endorsements and AC's.

I hate to walk into a CFI checkride with an 81 on the written, but at $150 for another shot, I'll hold my head high and take my chances!
 
I definitely recommend Sheppard Air. I took my FOI and FIA tests last week after studying with their software (and following the strategy). Got 96 and 98.
 
Well I hope it works out then for me . I used sheppard Air to study for the FIA and have scored a 93-98 on my practice tests. I just went thru all 550 something questions they have in the study bank. I am flying a charter trip to College station in the morning and will be taking the FIA test while I wait!! I will post my results from the airport if I get a chance!!

Okay good news to report. Sheppard Air is by far the best test prep out there. I took the FIA written today and scored a 94%! Sweet. I seen every question in the test prep and it was worded just like the test prep. no trick words added. Have both the FOI and FIA done so now I am starting my flying for the Intial CFI ride.
 
After reading several posts here I decided to try sheppard Air for the FOI, I got a 94% all of the questions were in the prep. although 3 of them shown slightly modified answers and that confused me. Unfortunately I dont remember the 3 options for each questions, but I don't think is relevant. The test took me only 20 minutes and according to the guy it was the highest score he saw for the recent times. Looks like Sheppard is the way to go.
 
Just to bump this thread, studied with sheppard air ( a weird little company, but good) for 4 days and got a 92% on the FOI...its an easy test really just basic psychology . Saw 1 new question. Going to use them for other test as well (just wish they had an ipad app (using splashtop to stream to my ipad in the meantime) )
 
I'm taking the FOI next week so I'll let you guys know how it goes. Using AIH and sheppard air.
