If I hadn't just moved across the country, I'd be all over this . . . but since I just dropped a bundle on the move and can't afford to do it again, I'll share.

Take Flight Alaska in Anchorage is currently looking for instructors. They have immediate openings for qualified applicants. Could be a good in for bush pilot wannabes.

Website here: Take Flight Alaska

I am a CFI at Take Flight, and yes we are hurting for instructors. If you are looking for the fast track to get your career going, get thee up here. There are tons of hours available. Wx cancellations can be a problem, but it isn't a whole lot worse than the east coast or midwest. You would have to be willing to move up here pretty quick, our chief is currently interviewing. There is mulit time available, and possibly flightseeing opportunities (I'm a 135 pilot as well). Once you get some 'alaska' time, there are lots of bush flying opportunitites. Let me know if you want more info.

I sent my resume yesterday to eric. I have about 150 dual given and CFII. I also have a friend instructing for you guys, and I think he put in a word for me. Any other advice on getting hired without my MEI?

If you have friend putting in a good word, that will help. I'm pretty sure eric has a stack of resumes he's going through. Not having MEI isn't critical, I'm working on mine right now. In fact, the state of Alaska gave me five grand to get it. So if you're looking to get the MEI, get up here, start working, and hit up the good ol' government for some free money. Lots of instructors have gotten additional ratings paid for - not a loan so don't have to pay it back.

Other than that, call, email or just bug eric to hire you, and tell him you will pack your bags tomorrow (or after xmas) and move up here. He won't hire someone who is iffy on moving to AK. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info Tbone. do you think that Jan 1st is soon enough to be up there? I have no problem moving to AK It will just take me about a week to drive up? Thanks for your advice.

I'm sure that would be fine. I'm heading to SLC for about 3 weeks over xmas - you can take some of my students!

Tim,

Just how am I supposed to take that?

Ok 4 days from utah if I don't want to see anything along the way. I f I got the job and needed to I would make it in three days. I think however that my lack of Cessna time may hurt my chances. Yes I know I may be the only CFII in the world with ZERO cessna time and now it's going to bite me. I do have afriend with a 210 who said today I can fly it cheap to get some time. Alaska may yet be my future.

Wow, how does that work?

Tbone,

Are they looking for experienced instructors also? I am trying to find my way over the "pothole" I am in right now. I'm just not busy enough at the place I am and need some place where I can get into charter/sightseeing/etc. that has at least a chance at multi time.

I just sent Eric my resume. I guess I'll see if I get a call. I know I'll freeze, but it will hopefully be worth it.

Not sure if you care or not but MAPD is hiring, should be having one or two more come online in the next few months.

Baron time after teaching one semester, you'll come out with about 250 multi or so after a year...

Just a heads up. It's just MEI time so if you want charter that's not gonna happen here. Still an awesome place to work!

I'm interning with a major airline now and one of the pilots was jumpseating with built a lot of her time up in Alaska fish spotting. Does anyone have any information on this type of job or how to get one like it?

Thanks.

yep we do take experienced flight instructors of course. If you're from down south you should have some experience or finish ratings up here.

there is a guy who flies with us who does fish spotting. I'll see if I can get some info from him. He is just now getting his commercial because the "faa is cracking down on the fish spotters." Apparently people were doing it with just a private license out there.

I flew 18 days in a row in January without a single wx cancellation. That's pretty rare for up here, but generally it stays pretty busy. I think things have been slow around there lately though, I am out of the cfi game - got hired by a regional up here.
