Can someone please tell me...

There was nothing even remotely flirtatious in the content of the CVR transcription from the NTSB website.

...why is it I've read in more than a couple of newspapers (or clips) that Captain Renslow and FO Shaw were "flirting." Did people read a different transcript from the CVR than I and most other people did? Has anyone else seen this in their local papers? Where do so-called reporters draw these conclusions from? Sadly, I know today's "journalists" resort to sensationalism and outright lies to hype their stories, but seriously, WTF? :banghead:

This is why I don't watch the news anymore

You've never tried to hook up with a girl by talking about airframe icing?

For me, talking about engine overspeeds is the talk to really get things going.

Seriously, it's pretty sick and I feel awfully bad for the families. No matter what the FINAL FINDINGS are, they were still people and the media is dragging them through the mud.

So those of you who read these papers will be sending in letters to the editor and making phone calls to the paper demanding an explanation from them on why they injected "flirting" into this disaster, even when it is clear from the CVR that it was not the case....

the greater response the better as far as they are concerned, unless the response is legal action.

It doesn't even make sense.

Oh Lordy! I can tell you right now that the creator of this piece of crap should be served his final psalm in Arabic before having his dynamite filled stinky pants set on fire and being punch kicked into outter space. What a disgrace! What the hell happened to common decency? Dead too?

So do we go to ALPA (ehem, Seggy!!!) and ask them to file a defamation lawsuit on behalf of the deceased crewmembers, requiring monetary damages and a retraction?

That would be justice.

I caught the comment on TV the day they released the transcript, but before I had read it. CNN I believe. Very clearly said "Flirting"...and I cringed, wondering what the CVR would hold. Read the transcript, saw nothing that I would consider flirting, simply two people discussing things, albeit in a pleasant manner (I guess that constitutes flirting today). I agree with the sentiment and would certainly be impressed for ALPA to sue these bastards.

She was probably laughing too much, agreeing with too much of what he said or simply just a young girl. He could have zipped it a bit too - but hell, who cares, in the future every word you speak will not only be taped, it will be transmitted real time to some paper pusher, who makes a determination if "Good Morning Captain" already constitutes flirting.

The media coverage on this whole incident has been extremely discusting. That cartoon is extremely tastless and disturbing to say the least.

NY Post...

Rupert Murdoch knows schlock sells, so...

Dig around their website a bit, it's not a whole hell of a lot different than PerezHilton.

Reminds me of the UA585 accident (long investigation, probable but not definite cause), where one paper was claiming that the Capt was attempting to kill the (female) co-pilot with the crash axe, which caused the upset.

Most of these reporters should be abducted in the middle of the night and dropped off in Iran and labeled spy journalists. There is no justice for them in the United States.

I thought journalists had some sort of code. They are just as ignorant as the people who believe the smut they put in print!

I really don't understand why nature does a half-ass job of weeding out the nimrods.

Wow, that cartoon is just disrespectful! Things like this make it hard to respect the media. These people made a mistake, and paid for it with their lives. Talk about bad taste.

ALPA's attorney's deal with labor, FAA, and other issues related to our day to day job.

Defamation lawsuits are not their expertise and outside of their scope.

Seggy -

I try not to make it a practice to speak for others - but I will say that if there were a letter writing campaign, or some kind of protest for this blatant sensationalism that everyone here would take part. The wreck was bad enough and the hearings did a pretty good job of making everyone involved look bad - but to imply that there was impropriety between the crew is disgusting.

In the position I am in, I can't get into media coverage, however, do what y'all feel is best.
