Bethel grows on you, kinda like a tumor.

Hahaha. Not this time. It would have been a nice sized paycut to go to 15/15. But I will be the only pilot in UNK so my schedule is kind of flexible.

You think Ryan will adjust the pay scale up for 207 guys in the future? I know they don't fly nearly as much as the other operators so the hourly isn't bad, but, $190 day max is far behind what can me made at Yute and Hageland.

For all of us AK guys I hope some adjustments are in the works. A lot of old timers claim to have made $40 plus per hour running sleds in the 80's.

I am hoping some adjustments are going to be made. We have a new CP who I know is talking about a pay raise for us. He knows how far behind we are.

I would have stayed away from MAF anyway, we have them at our field here, and even if they do some great stuff as far as using aviation to support isolated communities I`m totally against some of the other things they do. In some ways they are a company like any other, they do lots of charter work and they get paid for it, just as we do and nobody calls us a charitable group, but I have to say their training and their planes are sure the best in the industry. They have a training manual for the 206 that is truly amazing. I couldn`t see my self working for them, as it goes way too much into your life, at the end of the day I just wanna be myself and not be tied up to an organization 24/7 365 days a year, not sure maybe you are different and you could deal with that.

The main reason I mentioned being in shape and not overweight is because this job requires you to be flexible and strong, you would be loading all sort of stuff in the plane, most of the time by yourself, pushing the plane around and try to crawl inside the cargo pod to get that last box out. An other important aspect is that most likely you be flying smaller single engine planes, where having extra weight to be used for pax and cargo brings money and in some cases allows you to take an extra paying passenger on board.

If you wanna do some bush flying for fun, there are bush flying camps, they are not that expensive and may give you that kick you don`t have at your current job.

What exactly are you "totally against" that MAF does? MAF has to pay for the operational cost of the flight like anyone else, so of course we have to charge for flights. The big difference is how much we charge. For example, we've done flights for less than $3000 where your former employer (Susi) wanted $8000 for the same route, same plane. The big difference is we are a non profit, looking out for the needs of the communities we serve, not trying to turn a profit. We still have to pay the bills though. I'm genuinely interested in what you have against MAF though.

Again???
I should have remembered Yute. Does Ryan have 15/15 schedule for all, or just 207 pilots? What does about 600hrs and a lot of that Ak time get you these days?
It is 15/15 for CASA and 207 guys. They might put you in a 207 if you have 135 vfr mins, otherwise it will be right seat in the CASA.

Not to thread drift too much but a friend recently told me he's wanted to do Aleutian flying his whole life. Who's still flying out there? I know PenAir and ACE do some, anyone else fly out there?

Cool beans, I do have vfr mins. Plenty of Ak xc time too.
Sweet. I will let you know next time we hire.

Those are the only two doing any regular Aleutian flying.

Grant has bases in Dutch, Cold Bay, Dillingham and King Salmon but they tend to go pretty senior
