I do know though, that the FAA is concerned that abnormal engine noises, aural warnings, chimes and other important noises could be canceled by anr headphones, so depending on auto mute to make sure you don't miss something could be a bad idea.
This is actually a very interesting point. Personally, I'll only play tunes when flying while in cruise flight. On takeoff and climb, and once on approach, my tunes are off.
