Bose X

I just bought a Bose X headset and was wondering if any of you had any recent suggestions on how to use an iPod with the headset. Also, if you prefer the music to cut out when ATC talks or if you think it is better to have the music running continuously in the background. Thanks in advance!

The music in my headset runs continuity but I keep it really quite, and don't use it when I shouldn't.

As far as making it work with the bose... I dunno, but it was designed in the last decade (and price fixed) so your going to have to rig it ghetto style.

http://www.montanamods.com/. Sells the montanna mods adapter for the Bose x. Plugs in where the boom mike would go if u were going to switch sides, or you can wire up the 4 pins yourself. There are 2 positives and 2 commons, 4 pins total.

That's prob the easiest, most reliable way.

I haven't done it with my Bose, but with my David Clark, I just got some ear bud ear phones and slipped them under the headset. Worked great. I could turn the music so I could hear it clearly and still not block out ATC.

Getting ready to put my Bose X on Ebay in the next few days. (need to grab it at the airport so I can take photos) It's been a good headset, but time to move on. ;)

I dont feel like looking up the thread from a couple weeks ago:), but which headset did you decide to go with?

Not sure that it's a good thing that this adapter doesn't mute the aux signal when ATC comms come in....

Neither does u fly mike or 90% of the other methods... Never been an issue for me.

Does your Zulu mute for cockpit aural warnings? Should your music be so loud that you need them to mute to hear things?

I fly with a Sennheiser, but yes, it mutes whatever aux source to prioritize ATC. I don't think it's a function of having music "so loud" but rather having it nice and quiet for ATC or cockpit communication.

Sorry, but I find the auto mute to be one of, if not the most annoying features. The last time I ferried a plane, it had the G1000 with xm. Awesome I thought, but you couldn't listen to a song because any time, ANYBODY made a noise it would mute. I can't think of any time that I have missed a call bc of music. I do know though, that the FAA is concerned that abnormal engine noises, aural warnings, chimes and other important noises could be canceled by anr headphones, so depending on auto mute to make sure you don't miss something could be a bad idea. Anyways, should you be listening to tunes while doing something that requires you to be able to understand atc, or otherwise?

The adapter I listed above works just fine, is secure in atachment, and doesn't need batteries or anything

How do you like the Sennheiser's in general? I've browsed the site and they look like very high quality pieces, I've just never been able to get my hands on a pair in person to look at.

Oh, and by the way, do you happen to be a member of CornerCarvers? Your name just looks familiar from long ago and with the white Porsche...

Also might mention, in a hot mic aircraft, the auto mute will always be sensing audio input from the plane, and be muting your aux... For many it may just be a moot point I guess

Sennheisers are excellent. If you know anything about the audio equipment the company manufactures, then you know that they're a German company that knows a thing or two about sound :)

I remember the corner carvers site, but last I knew it wasn't around anymore?
