Best 121 option

Thanks Juxtapilot. XO has advertised as hiring for a long time now. A year anyway, but they seem to be somewhat of a mirage. Don't know anyone that knows anyone there but I have heard you stand no chance if you don't have internal recs. Sign me up though by all means right! I am looking forward to the fractionals hiring again and you are correct, that is the direction I have always wanted to go. Seems to suit my lifestyle better. My great internal debate has been whether or not I need to have some regional time (so one else is letting me touch their jets) in order to appeal to them. Really only want to do that if I absolutely have to but if that is what it takes then I'll do it as a means to and end. Would sure rather Allegiant or someone else with more money to offer give me a shot but it is what it is. I have a friend Travel Management Company and have thought about that as well. Jet+ATP+Type+live at home is a pretty nice combination if you ask me. Also USAjet but I think their schedule is illegal and don't want to pack my family up to detroit. Probably the fastest way to jet pic though. If I knew I could get to Travel Management or Avantair within the year I would go buy the ATP and type and just stay put. Damn crystal ball is squawked though.

As a Detroit Native USA Jet sparks an interest. Anyone now what USA Jet minimums are? I could stand getting beat up for a few years to whip my resume in shape.

Don't remember exactly but i would guess 2500 TT 500 multi probably some turbine. I talked to the senior captain and he commented that they want the higher multi (don't really think that is high though) time because they need people who can upgrade quick. As little as 3 months (not the norm but the way things are going who knows! His son (works with me) tells me their is no contract but the outdated info on the interweb suggests a 2 year contract. It is a 24/7 on call operation however. Well, i think you get a day or two off a week depending on how senior you are maybe 3. But still 24 hour on call is not cool if they are 135. If it's Sup121 I dunno.

There's a USA Jet management type who posts a lot on PPW. He's always seemed pretty approachable. It's also on my radar for the future but Yip sounds like it would be rough.

They are hiring. Things are always changing and it is still almost impossible to get an interview unless you know someone at XO very well or have flown with them in the past. That being said, if your a prior 135 guy with X Hawker 800 or challenger 300 experience you may not need a rec.

Even if you have Hawker, X, or CL300 time it's really not enough. XO has thousands of apps on file with people who have time in type and hundreds on file with internal recs and they still prefer to hire less experienced pilots with recommendations vs experienced but unknown pilots off the street. Whether one agrees with this or not is a different story but I can tell you that a recommendation is the ticket to getting on here. That being said there have been people who have gotten on without a rec but that's not the norm.

Best to do is check around and see if anyone you've flown with, whom you may have lost touch with, has gotten on there and hope they'll write you a rec. Also just randomly approaching an XO pilot won't do much for you either unless they get to know you really well and are willing to offer you a rec. In the meantime they've stopped interviews for the time being but last I heard they plan on continuing through a large pool of internal recs sometime in the future. Hopefully sooner than later as XO's looking to acquire 7 more X's in the near future in addition to the "new" Hawkers.
