Being a CFI at UND vs Being a CFI at XXX FBO

At UND, we have wind endorsements even if we're in the CFII course. These endorsements are given by our newly hired 10-hours-dual-given flight instructors. I wouldn't be surprised if these hired CFIs have to get wind endorsements from the lead flight instructors themselves. Maybe the CRJ sim should have some wind endorsements too. Crashing in the sim might make Windows 95 unstable. Maybe I should suggest this idea to our school. It will, undoubtedly, make our environment more safe.

And how much dual given do you have Angel?

insurance rules the general aviation world. deal with it.

Couldn't have said it any better myself. Especially after 9/11 UND's insurance rates skyrocketed. Combine that with incidents such as the Emergency Descent into the field, and the school has a need for such rules. As far as wind endorsements go, im sure many aircraft have been saved from students wanting to fly a long XC or even a solo to the practice area. We still have aircraft run off the runway every semester.

I can see how night currency pisses people off here, but like i just said its something the school has to do. What you should be doing is asking yourself why you were about to take the night flight while you were not current. Its not like the SOF makes up rules 2 mins before you get the aircraft book, the rules are printed right in you SP&P, READ THEM!!! In every course, even in 400 level classes, the first lesson is always to review P&P.

For those of you in 221 that are having trouble with night flights because of this, stop bitching to everyone else for a second and slap yourself for being so far behind!! This course is designed EXPECIALLY for GFK weather with the last block being all sims!!

You know....
(and not saying that you're referring to me 'cause I know you're not)
...I don't recall bitching about course completion in the past (a search might reveal so)...
...but I do understand how someone could easily get far behind in their flying. One day that you miss to do a x-country or a lesson for that matter can put you in the bad side of the spectrum that the unpredictable, random, weather of GFK is. The problem lies in the nature of any structured program, I know that, however it doesn't help when you have many restrictions on how you can fly.
Not directing this at you since you haven't personally offended me, but if you were to tell me to slap myself because I'm behind in a course, I'd tell you to slap yourself back for not realizing how easy it is to get stuck on a lesson. Like I said, it is true that it is in the nature of structured 141 programs to not let you proceed past your current lesson, but I think it always helps to vent in one way or another to keep sanity.

Some of us have jobs. I work 40 hrs a week so I've always had a hard time finishing my flight courses. I end up BARELY finishing up on time.

Not trying to pick on you, BUT, that is your choice/need to work 40 hours a week, not UND's or the policies fault. The simple fact that you are finnishing, barely, shows how flexible the schedule and requirements are. Now if you want me to start ranting, bring up the bonus points policy!

How could i NOT understand how easy it is go get behind??? Last I checked, most of us were flight students here, Im sure everyone has had trouble within the past week with a lesson. But UND templates allow for weather, especially by allowing you to brief and sim ahead of MOST lessons. As far as instructor availability goes, im sure there are plenty of instructors on here who would love some extra work. It is not hard to find replacement instructors to complete a lesson.

Oh I know it is - I'm not saying it's anyone's fault.

What I should be saying is the bonus point system is for the more "privileged kids" who don't work. I love how faculty's excuse for getting 2% knocked off your ground school grade if you fail a stage check is "well you have plenty of opportunities for bonus points" - I haven't earned a single bonus point ever.

Congratulations, I know plenty of people including myself who have worked through college and still completed on time. It IS possible. Yes there are the select few who receive a monthly allowance, but that number is smaller than you think. I consider people who work through college lucky. We deal with so much more •! now as far as time management that when we graduate it will be much easier to adapt to poor quality of life and pay. Its the poor kid from Washington driving a Hummer around campus thats going to walk across the stage in May (or whenever he graduates) and is going to get slapped in the face with reality.

I'm not asking for sympathy, I'm just stating that some of us work 40 hours a week to pay for college and it's not possible to finish flying within the course template.

Zero. Did you forget already?
This pertains to UND policy awareness.

What, do you think you are above getting a wind endorsement? Please tell me you aren't one of those jerkoffs that makes a big stink about this down at the SOF desk. That's so annoying.

doubt it. im sure daddy has him a good-ol-boy job lined up already.

hey mr UND apologist, explain to me the logic why i should be barred from registering from 222, and thus delaying me a whole frickin semester, when i may at WORST end up finishing 221 in early to mid january. explain it. i want to see a good argument.

Last time I checked 221 was a prereq for 222, so how can you argue that you should be able to start 222 without finishing 221 in its entirety first? Regardless of when in the *near* future you plan on finishing 221, you have yet to finish it and shouldn't be allowed to progress in your training until you do so. Why is that such a hard concept?

c'mon dont make it personal.

And here's the reason. There are only x number of planes/sims/ground school seats available. If you're not ready to go straight into 222, then they may have to limit someone who is ready from having access to these resources.

Also, you have to learn how to fly upright on instruments before you can learn how to shoot an approach.

makes perfect sense to me...:)

I've never bitched at the SOF because my wind endorsement is high enough as to not restrict me in flights, so it doesn't affect me either way.
The thought of getting a wind endorsement at this point from some new hire that flies no better than I do bothers me. Being hired by UND as a CFI doesn't mean your skills automatically improve exponentionally just by having a paycheck from UND. Something to consider. ;)
