Bad form?

All of them are hit or miss at times, but I've had very few bad experiences with Atlantic. Special mention to Bud the night manager at ATL...that guy is a hero.

Also, they have a nice little briber...er "awards" program, although I hear it used to be much better.

Pilots love the briber, not their money they are spending to make money!

Yeah, the better end got cut in February.

Because some people want to try to help prevent their company from being gouged. Keep BS costs like that low theres more to pay me raises with. (Theoretically.)
Those people need to be calling ahead and talking to the GM to negotiate fees and fuel prices, minimum uplifts to waive fees, free stuff they can give you, etc.

I will say that our service seems to have actually gotten worse since we became Platinum customers.

...whatever that means. I know what it's supposed to mean, but it doesn't.

It's a two way street. Freight guys do it to themselves a lot of the time. I seen a lot of freight dawgs come in eat a bunch of cookies popcorn and make a bunch of noise and treat the desk people like crap and buy zero fuel and never tip. You'll generally find that if you are known to be a nice person and an occasional tip for a great job you'll be well received. When I was with Airnet we used Signature in many different cities and with rare exception I was treated like we came in a GIV and not a clapped out 35.

As far as fees, I believe that falls in my lack of giving a crap about the cost of doing business. Unless I'm on a mandate to save cost I have no problem paying with the companies money to help the aviation industry economy. Some guys will have an absolute blowup over some fees that are usually directly associated with the cost of doing business. And as Mini said if it's something routine talk to a GM and negotiate. Giving the CSR or line guy crap will do nothing but make their day bad and they don't get paid any more or less if you get charged that fee.

signature seems to be ok on fields where they have competition. boston, miami, milwaukee, etc, forget it. especially boston, with their jr. tsa working the door.

That's a Massport mandate not a Signature deal. I was a based at Signature MKE was also excellent.

Yeah MKE Signature does a great job, so does MIA.

I won't even go inside at BOS if we're just turning. I'd rather stay out in the heat/cold and send the line guy in to get my fuel receipt. They weren't going to let me out to the plane because I didn't bring my driver's license in.

I guess getting out of the airplane in uniform after shutting it down wasn't enough to prove that I was going out to fly it again. Go figure.

I know it's massport. Doesn't make me like their FBO. The line guys seem hit or miss, but once inside they seem disinterested.

my experiences at kmia and kmke have been overall negative, glad that isn't universal though.

Is it me or do very few FBO's teach people how marshal anymore? Learn the signals, know where to stand so I can see you and learn how an airplane turns.

Nothing irks me more than incompetence on the ramp.

On the same note, I can't stand when pilots don't follow my signals.

What are you turning? Please don't say a beech jet. I know those can't turn.

I hear ya, but you really can't blame the PIC. It is his but, not yours if something happens to the aircraft. An FBO that shall remain nameless marshalled one our 727's right into a fence.

UPS marshalled one of our caravans into another one of our caravans (parked) last week. I think they were trying to tell us something.

I was a marshaller for UPS in the late 90s. I was a teenager who did a quickie course on ramp etiquette, had a couple of "wands" shoved into his hands, and was told to go park 747s on a ramp just barely big enough to hold them.

I was one of the better ones.

caveat emptor.

Yet the marshallers and supervisors get mad at you if you don't follow their direction. :dunno:

Guess who gets in trouble/loses their job if there is a prop strike or the plane runs into something while being marshalled?

Ouch...Did the PIC get in any trouble with the company or Feds?
No, there was no damage. The extreme wing tip grazed the top of the prop. I think they had to inspect the prop to make sure it was still balanced right and producing appropriate RPMs though.

I was standing around watching, waiting for my can. The marshaller didn't give the STOP sign until contact with the other plane had already occured. And the wing walker triped himself over the cone.

We did a few trips through MIA over Super Bowl weekend and they were great. Quick turns, any fee they could waive was waived and they even threw some free food at us! T'was a good time.

We just hit MKE a few times last week, IIRC. No problems.

The biggest thing to remember is that you've got to tell them (the GM, not the CSR) when there's a problem. We're supposed to be Platinum, which means preferential treatment () supposedly (I'm not a fan of that...if we're all paying the price, it should be first come first served), but in BNA a few weeks ago we couldn't even get a GPU or so much as someone to come out to grab the chocks or marshal us out. Since the boss-man doesn't value my hearing, there I was taking chocks out with the engine running behind the wing. I guess starting the right side first would have been too much to ask.

Anyway, a quick call to the GM when we finished up the next day and he assured us he would look into why it was an issue and make sure it doesn't happen that way again. We'll find out next time we go through BNA.

Communicate folks! It's important. If no one tells them they're f'n up, they'll never know they need to fix it! I used to manage a small retail shop and I valued the "hey...so-n-so was real biotch!" comments more than the "ZOMG YOU GUYS ARE SO AMAZING!!!".
