Bad form?

I was thinking about this and am curious where this will go. I am pretty sure most everyone here has been to a nicer FBO, free coffee, snacks, showers, pilot sleep room, and all sort of amenities...okay.

Say you are traveling by an earth bound means. Is it in bad form to utilize FBO facilities instead of getting a room, say at a Motel 6? Hey that 44 bucks is food AND gas money!

Bad form.

Unless you're going to buy a couple thousand dollars of fuel from them for your '73 Chevette.

:D

Pretty much.

Don't abuse the system... which is why we shell out $6 a gallon for gas at these places.

Although Signature is an exception... you have my blessing to use them.

Sweet! Signature it is. I'll bring a long a head set and other pilot stuff to make it look like I was actually flying and park the car around the corner...Ah yes my co-pilot ordered fuel...where is the courtesty car and do you have any more coffee?

:sarcasm:

Bad form...

However, I have decided next time I travel and run out of hotel points, I'm going to call the local FBO and get them to set me up a room at their rate at the local Hilton :D

I always call and book my rooms work related or otherwise through an FBO. It doesn't cost the FBO a dime and it helps them to negotiate better rates.

Not sure why the Signature-hate. We get great gas prices (Paid $3.41/gal yesterday), great service (free GPU, up front parking, mmmmm popcorn) and don't pay facility or ramp fees.

You guys need to negotiate better.

...and yes, bad form.

They hate pistons....

That they do!

Our maintenance hangar is actually right next door to a Signature. Some guys like to go in and eat the free cookies and drink the free coffee during breaks. Personally, I don't like to do that unless we purchase fuel from them. Broke FOs are the biggest perpetrators of this. :D

Which may be a large reason why they "hate" when certain types of pilots/aviation professionals come by. No one likes to be taken advantage of.

They started it.

The nightmare stories about signature are by far the exception, but there are enough of them that many pilots will use them only as a last resort.

As a freight dog I don't expect red carpet treatment, but the horrible run around I've recieved on a couple ocasions has made me avoid them as much as possible.

Yeah that, especially the signature part.

They charged me (I mean company...but still pissed me off and did a little rant) $76 bucks in STL just to drop off a box and leave. I don't have much experience with them, but I'm going to avoid them like the plague from now on. Thanks for the $76 dollar chocking.

It is amazing the lengths I've gone to avoid paying ramp fees over the years.

But I don't want to give anyone bad ideas, so I will refrain from posting the details.

:yeahthat:
I could care less about 'abusing' their services. They suck at customer service even with all the money I've spent there. From what they have charged me (even unwillfully) I'm gonna eat their dang cookies every chance I get. And I'm gonna like it too.

I'm a firm believer that a customer is lifelong relationship and not a single transaction. And yes I will remember all those rude remarks, snobbery, and 'take it up the you know what charges just cause you have an airplane' when I'm running the show at a corporate gig.
