Azerbaijan Airlines Crash

There’s a longer video on YouTube. I’m not going to post it…I am amazed people actually survived. The crash reminds me alot of UAL 232 Heavy in SUX

One preliminary article I read said they were returning after a bird strike. That’s not what that video appears to show.

Flightradar24 track of this flight is all over the place weird. Could be wrong as FlightAware isn’t showing the same stuff.

J28243 if you’re interested

Article in OP says it was a flight from Baku to Grozny, but diverted because of fog to Aktau, Kazakhstan, 270 miles away across the Caspian Sea.

Current reports say 66 pax, four dead, 29 in the hospital, the rest TBD.

There’s video from inside the cabin taken by passengers, I’m guessing ones that survived. I can’t understand what they’re saying though but some translations on Reddit are mostly prayers and the flight attendants telling everyone to sit down and buckle up.

I saw that video but wasn't sure if it was authentic. The inside of the cabin looks like they hit severe turbulence. some masks down, some paneling off.

Hell, was this airplane hit with automatic gunfire?

JFC that is insane. The radar track is like JAL123, a deadly rollercoaster where they almost crashed over and over until they finally did. 22 walked away i think with 40 killed. Like UA232, I'm assuming these guys did their very best with a crap sandwich and saved lives. They got 250 feet from the sea in a dive at one point I read and also almost crashed trying to land on a highway but went around. Russian drones were in the area on their way to attack Ukrainian forces apparently, BUT fear not, the government is saying it was "likely a bird strike".

Yeah the longer version of that movie shows a bunch of vertical oscillations.

Also looks like about half the survivors are in critical condition with several on life support. So only 10 or so really "walked away". Still, hats off to the crew for putting it down where help was standing by.

Having never been to a crash scene, is this something that could be caused by debris from the crash (rocks etc kicked up) or most likely what it appears to be?

Only if the damage matches the direction of impact, and usually scars align with the path of impact, just like road rash like a motorcycle rider experiences. This appears to be more along the lines of damage from high speed projectiles.
