ATP Final Rule Signed

I didn't even come close to reading all 200+ pages but is there anything in there that changes any of the other ATP certs, SEL, MES, SES, Helicopter, etc?

One more thing, I am confused as to how this is implemented. Does it actually go into effect in August or now? I'm trying to figure out if one can get a traditional ATP without 50hrs multi until August or not.

So do guys without 141 training and aviation degrees get shafted in getting jobs with airlines?

You guys are still talking about this?

I have a Riddle education (loan payments to prove it), and got hired into an RJ with about 850TT. Doing just fine, thankya. This new rule is completely arbitrary.

I don't think it's going to make a lot of difference either.

But I'm sure DC felt good "doing something".

On the morning news, there was an "expert" talking about "Can you believe the first officer couldn't afford to live in her domicile so she was flying red eyes from the west coast and flying tired? This addresses the issue".

WOT?! Really. OK.

What I'd like to know is if you have a current ATP written (passed mine in June) do I still have to worry about the new ATP. I have we'll over 50 hours of multi but I'm just over 1000 tt. Would I still go about taking my ATP ride as normal once I hit ATP mins or get to a regional? I kinda interpret it as the additional training is for the written (if taken after August 2014).

I'm a college grad with a BS in aviation but did my training part 61. Personally I'm sorta angry that colleges like mine are being passed up.

Your written should be valid for 2 years. If you don't pass the ATP ride in that span, you will then be subject to the additional CTP requirement before you take the written again. (Because July 31st, 2014 will have passed)

Edit for clarification: You can take the written at any point until July 31st, 2014 and not be subject to the CTP.

Annnnnnnnd that's why I think the rule itself is pretty bogus...

My other problem with the rule is the differentiating of experience hours. Somehow, an associates gets you a 250 hour deduction, bachelor's, 500, and military 850...

It should all be the same, regardless of background, whatever number they decide.

An ATP should be awarded at 1500 hours. As a college grad from a part 61 school i find it total bull that someone that went to riddle can get their ATP at 1000 hours. Im sorry and dont mean to offend anyone but this is a total crock. I think it should be 1500 across the board except for the military pilots. A couple years back I was hoping to get on with a regional with a wet commercial but now I am more than happy to wait until 1500 hours. The FAA really screwed this up.

Oh and thanks Colgan!

Nobody should get special treatment. I medically couldn't get into the military, why should I be further penalized?

ERAU and other 141 schools pushed hard for it. They needed a way to keep students coming the door and selling them a grossly over priced product. I don't see how book work can replace real world experience in the cockpit. The only pilots that should get lower minimums are the military pilots, IMO.

I am sure we haven't heard the last on this rule yet.

I disagree but then again I'm a product of that education. If it was cheap and there were more girls this place would be crazy over Riddle. The actual education received is pretty damn good. Harvard good???Hale no. Better than your local FBO, without a doubt.

I would agree that military training has to be superior to civilian training, but to be honest I think the ATP should have been left alone. I didn't see anything wrong with the reqs to get one in the first place. We already knock off 60 hours for a commercial for 141.
From what I've seen a degree has absolutely no impact on the pilots capabilities or mindset.
