AS hiring heads up

With only 4 jobs being open, AS can be very selective. They likely got apps from possibly most regional and supplemental dispatchers plus internals. I imagine for externals and probably also for internals, the competitive qualifications are likely going to be much higher than the minimums posted in the job opening.

They did previously hire graduates without experience from dispatch program at Green River Comm. College. most of it due to connections. One of their dispatchers is an FAA examiner at that college.

I'm really sorry you guys got TBNT'd. It really makes you wonder what they're looking for. I have not yet received a TBNT and I applied on Sunday. I've only got just over a year of part 121 (US/Canada), but I've got a pilot's license, just moved into a supervisor position and I'm teaching Dispatcher ground school. I know these "extras" don't hurt, but I can't imagine why they'd keep a 1-year guy in the mix and send a TBNT to a 3-year guy. No news is good news, I guess. Fingers crossed!

I've opined before that breadth of experience is more meaningful than depth. Someone with three years on the desk at Brand X doesn't have three years experience; they have one year of experience repeated 3 times.

Any idea what sort of phone/F2F questions they might ask (when they return)? IE: What should I bone up on?

As expected ASA received tons of applications and a lot of external applicants got rejection emails right away

This is slightly disheartening, but to be expected I suppose. What would push an external towards the top of the list? Or is AS simply doing mostly internal right now.

That is the question to the hiring manager, I know for sure one of the parameters they look for is the age of the applicant even thou they wont admit that openly. Some dispatchers from other major airlines with experience under the belt got rejected.

I'm 41 and haven't heard anything.

Are they looking for older or younger?

I'm getting my license at age 27. I hope 30 isn't too ancient in the dispatch world when I have enough experience to reasonably apply to a major!
