That's actually pretty good odds for an airline of that caliber but maybe the numbers are lower cause who knows how vx will affect the seniority list.

Good luck to everyone that has applied and please share your interview experience so others can learn for the next round of hiring, etc.

Well that is a good time then to start looking for skywest dispatch position if your just out of school :)

Maybe. At a big regional like Skywest, two dispatchers leaving may not be enough to cause a need for hiring. It just depends on what their staffing was like before they lost those two and if they can cover the shifts of two dispatchers with OT and relief dispatchers.

Dispatchers in general love overtime. At the regionals, it is to make ends meet. At the majors, it is because the money is too good to turn down.

If an airline is hiring a lot or at all, it is because even the overtime • and junior assignments combined cant cover the amount of open shifts that are available.

They will be hiring soon even though their staffing can handle the loss of those two. Management seems to be trying the concept of being overstaffed in anticipation of losing people as opposed to being understaffed should people leave.

Being overstaffed is good for the junior people as it means less junior assignments. Overstaffing can create some issues though as many dispatchers rely on the overtime for extra money and it is effectively a pay cut for those who now have less overtime to pick up.

SKW got raided so badly in 2015 by United and Southwest that the manager even called SWA and asked them to stop taking his people. NO JOKE!

Manager of Mesa's NOC did the same thing with America West when they relocated their dispatch office to PHX

I think that's total BS, I know they have to run an airline but most go to regionals as stepping stones and to try and prevent people from moving up and on with their career because of your poor planning and foresight is total crap. Especially when the regional 15 year top out makes less than the starting salary, first year at a major.

You can ask for anything you want, but those hiring managers don't have any obligation to honor that request. It's not their problem if you can't retain or hire people. What bridges are they burning with the regionals if they do that?

Agree 100%. Regionals survive on cheap labor. They dont want you there too long which is the same for pilots.

They would rather have a 3 year Captain making 90k than a 20+ year one making 200k (pulling numbers out of my a** as I dont remember what regional pilots make, and reading their contracts is like a foreign language to me)

Except a topped out regional dispatcher is still cheap labor.
