That’s not true. As of February we have 2921 pilots, here are the abysmal retirement numbers:
2019: 20
2020: 35
2021: 47
2022: 60
2023: 57
2024: 62
2025: 87
2026: 75
2027: 98
2028: 77
2029: 105
2030: 87
2031: 100
Only 21% of the pilot group is retiring in the next 10 years. No airplanes on order, A319s going away, no new routes or growth until at least 2020 (according to the CEO), no scope restrictions.
That’s stagnation.

I hope it is!
Those retirement numbers were skewed with VX which was a much younger pilot group. VX itself retires only 4 in 2019 and I think it was 6 for 2020.

As someone who owns a boat, a plane, and many houses, I can tell you that the houses are the only smart buy. The airplane is a money pit the likes of which you can’t possibly comprehend. The boat isn’t as bad, but I’d have certainly been better off renting it.
That said, as much as I bitch about the plane, I can’t give it up.
