AOPA will never get another dime from me

Love all the Velo hate speak. Who is talking about user fees? You GA types are.

I'm not suggesting user fees to limit GA, though I AM in favor of them.

Perhaps just restricting GA from Class B airspace and airports served by airlines would do the same thing. The LGB midair is an outstanding example of why GA should be kept away from airline approach corridors.

You all remember San Diego and Cerritos don't you?
V, buddy...I used to think a lot like you, but to be honest, AOPA is going to keep Joe the Dentist safer in Class B than without. Also, what Class B main airport does GA hit a lot? SEA and SFO the fees are astronomical! Most GA pilots fly into the feeder airports under the Class Bravo. I think the method is already in place to restrict GA from working the larger airports.

I'm against user fees with the current progressive tax system. The ladies and gentlemen utilizing the business jets of GA are currently paying taxes that most people in the U.S. cannot possibly fathom.

Click Here for an article explaining who pays how much.

Few excerpts...

The top 1% (earning $388,807 or more) of all wage earners pay 40% of all taxes paid into the Federal Government.

The top 5% (earning $153,543 or more) of all wage earners pay foot 60% of the tax bill.

The most staggering fact. The bottom 50% of wage earners (68 million people earning $31,987 or less) pay just 3% of federal income tax while 1.4 million (the top 1%) pay 40%.

Just sad...

Aren't these people paying enough already? Switch to a fair tax/consumption based system and then we can talk about user fees.

The airlines have this down to a science, as much as we'd like to believe that they don't have a clue.

I think it's time for them to do a little more research instead of using a model that they've used since...uh, the Wright Brothers?

I know they've got people who do nothing but sit around all day and try to figure out the best fare for a flight, but given the fact that so many of them have filed for chapter 11 or flirted with it, it seems the model is broken.

In my mind, what they are doing is similar to Newton getting hit on the head with the apple that fell off the tree and eating it instead of doing the science.

Alrighty, as a guy that used to fly with Seggy for months on end, let me just end this thread.

He doesn't like ALPA or GA for good reasons. He's a good dude who's an ALPA big dog and is carrying the ALPA position because he believes in it. He's trying to educate everyone and do his best to convince you. He's a great guy and a great captain and I learned a lot from him

With that said, I want my own Mooney or Vtail someday, so Mark, screw off. LOVE YOU you wookie bastard!!!

PS. Drunk as a skunk
EAA blows because I'm not flying an RV into IFR I don't care what the cowboys say. There's a reason we have the f'ing certification process and I don't care what Burt or Vans says about it. Any questions please refer to the dead John Walton. Real men fly certified

Move along, nothing to see here.

This ought to be good...:D

Believe you mean "AOPA or GA.." Still, though, the thing is that education or not, aviation is much more than 14 CFR 121 ops. Doesn't make anyone with either or any opinion a bad guy.....just different, with different interests. Similarly, neither is completely right, nor completely wrong.

Yes, it's apparent....:)

Ok....thanks for the call. Next caller?

Bottoms up, jynxy!

Re: taxes. It's occurred to you, I suppose, that there's a systemic problem when wealth is distributed such that 1% of the population even CAN pay 40% of the taxes (and I dispute that number...I suspect that we're looking at raw numbers prior to any number of insane tax dodges only the hyper-wealthy can afford...but even if we're not...)? People simply aren't genetically predisposed to be capable of producing value 10,000 times greater than that of another sane, healthy adult. Note that I'm by no means a marxist...I do believe that some are more suited to lead and reap the rewards of leadership, but the balance is outrageously skewed. And government isn't the solution, it's the problem. We've painted ourselves in to a corner so rife with the potential for abuse that only the rapacious and unethical can figure the system out, then take advantage of it and complain about how they're being unduly burdened.

Just look at the positively Byzantine basement full of books known as the "federal tax code". Government has become a game you play rather than a social compact.

You speak truth to power.

Apparently, Boris hasn't had his breakfast beer yet. That's way too complex of a thought (before lunch) around here.

AOPA = $30 Dollars a Year to Try and Help Protect GA
ALPA or any Union = X% of your Paycheck every month to protect your job

Now without going into a flame-fest and taking this way off topic I am going to state an opinion take it or leave it. I differ with the norm on Pilot Union's but regardless if you are willing to pay hundreds of dollars a year to a union to protect your job isn't it worth the 30 dollars a year to try and protect the roots (GA).

It's a no-brainer to me especially with their legal service.
