AOPA outsourced my information to a 3rd party

I had this happen about a 2 months ago. After a while of me not answering, they gave up with trying to call me. Apparently, its AOPA trying to raise money for the AOPA political lobby arm, IIRC.
 
Hey I had a number from the same area code call me shortly after I applied. I never once picked it up so I didn't realize it was from them. Those schmucks, time to cancel that membership. Grrr that really irks me.
 
I'm a proud AOPA member, but I don't give any institution my real telephone number unless I actually want them to call me!

Especially stores.

"Telephone number?"

"No Thanks"

"But it's just so we can find you easier in the system!"

"I'm right here..."
 
:confused: No offense folks but for those of you leaving AOPA over this you probably had little or no use for the organization to begin with.

I remain a proud member for 35 years.:)
 
555-1212. Add your favorite area code. You can change it online. I've never gotten a call from AOPA or aviation related people. If AOPA still bothers you, you can just buy the magazine off the shelf.
 
There's a thing where you can opt out from all national marketing calls..


I did it a few years ago.

I don't get marketing calls..ever.

I do still get piles of AOPA junk mail.. but whatever.
 
I've been a member for 10 years and I have yet to get a single solicitation call, and the only "junk mail" I get is their safety courses and the christmas card samples every year, which I actually enjoy.

I don't know what you guys are doing but "ur doin it rong."
 
when they call, tell them that you can't pay for it until this next pay check, then you only have to talk to them on two week intervals, then after a month they forget about you.

That's just it- you're a member.

If you're, you're constantly bombarded by membership offers, requests, and pleas for donations. A lot of which is somewhat cleverly disguised as something other than people asking for money.

If I WERE an active AOPA member, I'd really be peeved about the money that must be wasted by perpetually snail mail spamming former members.

I mean sure, keep it up for six months or so, then send out a renewal card once or twice a year.. but it never lets up. I must get four or five of these a month, minimum.

I told them that since I am a flight instructor, I can't afford the $39 up front. I asked if they took weekly payments and they denied me. :(

I used to be peeved about such things until a guy who worked for a company that teaches charities how to market showed me the ROI on such things. I don't remember the exact percentages, but holy crap...
 
For this very reason was why I canceled my AOPA membership, including the billions of trees they wasted by sending me all those term life insurance or other flyers in the mail, even after I opted out to receive them repeatedly.
