Another BIG thanks to Jetblue.......

Because everybody else willingly lays it out there and therefore willingly opens themselves up to particular scrutiny based on where they choose to work.

It's not about speaking for your employer or anyone thinking your employer influences your opinions and posts.

It's about showing you're not afraid to put your own cards on the table.

Hey, anything's possible. I mean, your union tells you what to think!

Actually, they don't. You'd probably be surprised at what they think. They're all about kissing jetBlue's butt to get them in the Union. That's all about the dues income.

Personally, I don't care if they're ALPA or the JBPA. Until they are unionized, they can look for rides elsewhere.

But you don't shop at Wal-Mart because ALPA tells you to. I'm sure there are plenty of other examples but frankly, I don't really care enough to go find them. You're adorable though. You're like a real legacy captain except you never made it to the bigs.

go ahead and name me a couple airlines raising the bar...go ahead.

I'm waiting...

Can't, can you?

Delta. You'll argue that they lowered the bar by accepting concessions in their current contract.

My rebutle will be that even with concessions, they're still the highest paying "legacy" with the best contract around. And a reference point to future pilot groups when their contract becomes ammendable.

Also, in terms of future tenses, look for the Delta pilot group to again raise the bar come contract renewal time and be the envy of the industry.

Seconded by Continental.

Hate to burst your bubble by IMO it is highly unlikely ALPA will get voted in here. In-house, maybe. Somebody else, maybe. ALPA, no way. There is way to much ill will towards them. Lots of USAir furloughees here, not to mention an overwhelming disdain for ALPA among the pilot group in general (with some exceptions of course).

Well, something is going to be tried for in a few months. Who knows were the cards will lie, but the Teamsters, in-house union, UTA, will be better than nothing, in my opinion.

Regardless, you guys have been great to me when I have jumpseated on the blue. Appreciate the ride!

I beg to differ. I don't think you'd find ONE Delta pilot who would say $140 an hour is adequate for an MD Capt. OR that $180 is proper 777 pay.

That's not raising the bar, Max. Especially when SWA pays $196 for 737 Capts.

Sadly, it probably won't be ALPA. Why? Because they're populated by a bunch of misguided furloughees who blame ALPA instead of USAir and UAL management for their furloughs.

Instead of going out and getting real jobs, they decided to go with non-Union jetBlue and stab their Union brothers in the back out of spite.

Look for JBPA if any Union is certified there.

Velocipede, FlyChicaga made a good point about you not answering some specific questions posed by others. For example, B767Driver responded to your comment that regional pilots do not affect your pay. He noted that a lot of routes he used to fly are now being flown by regionals, thereby impacting his work. Can you respond to this?

Sure. Its a business decision made by management, not the Union. It is not economical to fly a 737 or A320 on the routes typically served by the regionals today.

It is unlikely that any flying was lost however. Most of those airliners are redirected into more profitable markets with more O/D business.

767 must be nearing retirement because he is referencing issues over 25 years old. It is not germane to the current conversation and therefore does not need commentary from me.

No you missed the point. I've stated previously that their contract was a turd, but it could have been worse, right?

And again, they're still the highest paying legacy in the industry post concessions, and have the best contract (read:QOL).

Maybe when they purchase your airline and you're stapled to the bottom of their seniority list, and fences are put up to prevent you and your other Alaska pilots from flying the "heavies." You'll be able to see how great the DL pilot group really is!

:laff:

Okay, the last paragraph was just for giggles!

:)

"Yawn. You're a funny man. Too bad you never got to work for a real airline."

That's funny stuff coming from a guy who couldn't get hired at Trans States, Chris Ford.

Alaska was amongst my top two choices. I'm in the top tier of their FF program and get first class upgrades. Alaska Air is a great airline and a great place for a pilot to hang his hat. Knock Velo to your hearts content, but to associate his comments as representing the great company he works for make you look kinda....silly.

You know what, is it **** like this that makes me very leery about the airline industry.

If this is the kind of **** I have to put up with, screw it, I ain't never going past the instructor level.

Don't worry. I've flown for 4 airlines of different shapes sizes and colors over the years. One of the things that makes the job great is the comraderie in the cockpit. I've flown with hundreds and hundreds of guys and girls...and only 1 or 2 that I didn't really care for. It's rare to see unprofessional behavior.

It's a great job. It's challenging, frustrating, demanding and rewarding. It allows you to see lots of places, meet lots of people and utilize lots of your skill.

Yep. You caught me. I couldn't get hired at Trans States. Ha ha ha, there's really egg on my face. (Oh, if only you knew)

I guess I must've struck a chord too since you never made it to legacy either. Queue the bragging about how much you make...

Hi, Chris Ford.

Your post was about how Alaska isn't a "real airline".

Feel free to keep yourself on topic and explain what you mean by that.
