Hi, Chris Ford.

Your post was about how Alaska isn't a "real airline".

Feel free to keep yourself on topic and explain what you mean by that.

Sure thing. Remember when you were a little kid? Did you dream of flying boxes around in the middle of the night? If so, good on you.

Same goes for Alaska.

Except Velocipede understands what I'm saying.

Sure. Its a business decision made by management, not the Union. It is not economical to fly a 737 or A320 on the routes typically served by the regionals today.

It is unlikely that any flying was lost however. Most of those airliners are redirected into more profitable markets with more O/D business.

767 must be nearing retirement because he is referencing issues over 25 years old. It is not germane to the current conversation and therefore does not need commentary from me.

ALPA amended our scope clause to allow larger jets to fly at the connection carriers, despite clear direction from the pilot group otherwise. Our mainline seniority list lost 4000 jobs as a result. Furloughs resulted for 6 years.

I'm 36 years old and no retirement in sight.

I understand your frustration and I do believe there should be a higher minimum for employment into a Part 121 cockpit. A loose labor market historically has kept highly experienced pilots in the cockpit. As supply has tightened this has changed. We're now seeing airlines struggling to fill seats...and this will probably be one of the biggest impetus for improved working conditions.

"Same goes for Alaska"

Soooo....

You're saying that my dream of working for Alaska was less than worthy, as would be a dream for working for UPS. I think I get you now....

I agree unions do have there place, but they aren't all that and bag of Chips. My entire pilot groups was totally screwed over by my last carrier and the union helped them do it.

Unions need to have much shorter leash with more pilot control over them.

Velo, you probably will hate me but I went from a Union 121 pax op to a non union 121 cargo op. I have been treated more fairly, paid over 4x more, and work 1/2 as hard at the non-union shop. No things aren't perfect here either...

All non-union companies aren't the enemy. I do agree with you on Skybus and Virgin...

That or you're not very intelligent. But eh who knows. You're always right....

It's a real shame I never made it to TSA. Gee golly.

Well. There ya go.

As near as I can tell. CF thinks a pilot job at UPS, Alaska, and Trans States, are all less than worthy. No wonder he's stickin' with show biz. Works for me, though, works quite well for me..

You didn't really say this did you? I thought you were married to a DAL pilot. It took YEARS and contractual concessions before DAL pilots were allowed access to their own jumpseat, much less the ability to reciprocate. Please say you're joking on this one...
Comeon...I may be married to a pilot that's in a union..doesn't mean i know it all or understand it all and i readily admit that too!

Actually, i know quite a few married gals whose husbands don't always tell them the whole scoop simply because most of the time, they think we don't need to know.. so i'm also still learning.

Velocipede:

I thought I could sit on the sidelines and just watch this disaster unfold... but I gotta say, man, that you really crossed the line when you took the condescending tone with the Queen Bee...

No one messes with the Queen Bee!

Velocipede- Send a thank you to CHRIS FORD. You are no longer the # 1 ahole on this board! lmfao.

wow CF. Your attack on 727 is on par with an 8 year old saying my moms car is better than yours. Very uninspiring.

I guess I must've struck a chord too since you never made it to legacy either. Queue the bragging about how much you make...

Chris, you really need to lighten up. Knocking UPS as "not a legacy" is ignoring the fact that they are one of the three premier jobs left in this industry.

Long ago and far away, UPS would have been my next interview. If I could go back and do it again, I'd be "brown" in a heartbeat.

Cargo is where its at these days, pal.

I never said that. If a non-Union company is raising the bar and paying BETTER wages and benefits, they are welcome aboard. Skywest pays more than some Union regionals. Skywest pilots are always welcome on my jumpseat.

I guess this board can be a learning experience for everyone whose mind is open to it. As these jumpseat threads devolve, its readily apparent there are plenty of inexperienced pilots who have opinions about issues they are unfamiliar with.

I beg to differ. I don't think you'd find ONE Delta pilot who would say $140 an hour is adequate for an MD Capt. OR that $180 is proper 777 pay.

That's not raising the bar, Max. Especially when SWA pays $196 for 737 Capts.

Does someone have a gun to your head to stay at your current employer? Didn't think so. Go get a job with SWA since you're obviously all about the money. Last time I checked this was America and if you don't like you're job for any reason you can go get another one. Stop you're whining and bitchin' and spend some time improving your work life....you obviously are not happy with it.
