I agree with Dugie8 and (Gasp!) Chris Ford.

I don't agree with Velocipede's premise in this particular thread, but many of the responses to him have degenerated into "ad hominem" attacks.

I keep waiting for the mods to step in and point this out...

I think everyone here should listen very closely to what Velocipede has to say. Other than using the jumpseat as a weapon, I think he's right on.

JMHO, YMMV.

And I must say that I agree as well - even with Chris Ford! :D

Velo has his right to his opinion. I've said that before on these boards. And for those of you who think he's full of cacka, he "is" a captain for a major and a former Navy pilot. I invited him to this site.

One thing I can say about Velo is that he is not remotely phony and stands strong in his convictions. The kind of guy I'd bet you'd want as a fellow airman when the going got tough. He may be a bit militant in his jumpseat stance, but it's his way of enforcing pilot unity against the powers that have dragged the profession down.

In the end, it all boils down to "to each his own". While flying on a two-day recently, I was speaking with a captain who said something quite profound. Even though it would appear that unions/pilot groups present a unified front most of the time, the bottom line is every pilot acts based on what is important to him/her.

Sorry folks!

The "mod duo" has been working on connectivity issues with the server. The east coast guys aren't having problems, but anyone on cox.net is.. weird.

Anyway, the problem with dropping insults and other 'ad hom' attacks is that even if you have a point, it's lost under a layer of negativity. If you don't have a point, beating your debate opponent down doesn't magically create one.

You can't beat someone into submission until they see your point.

If you really want to reach people, you can't throw a effervescent beaker of hydrochloric acid in their face and scream, "LISTEN TO ME!"

A wee bit of diplomacy goes far.

Which is why, yet again, thread closed. Let's go ahead and move on.
