Announcement Ending 05/02

Do you have a choice?

If you are in a right to work state, yes you for sure have a choice in the ATO. HOWEVER, you will still be required to adhere to the Union Contract as a bargaining unit employee and you will not be able to vote on anything.

I couldn't tell from the IWR language if all states were allowed to choose if they were or not though as from my understanding of those laws certain federal entities may or may not force union membership.

Here is a map of the right to work states... also note it says railroad/airline industries are not protected by right to work.

The union you are with definitely makes a difference. I don't know if Natca is any good or not...but it is the only choice. I was a Teamster and their union is worthless, but you had to belong with the job I had. I was making 3 years ago literally what my Father in Law was making in the 80's. My cousin on the other hand is in the Pipefitters Union. They have constantly improved with the times and are now making 2 times what they did in the 80's. They consistently make more than non-union employees and always have work.

My father belongs to a Deputy Sheriffs Association and they too have done well in representing their members, or so it seems to me.

If this particular union does nothing for the employees, it could just be that the Government is to powerful, so once they have made their mind up...there is nothing to do. But, without a union, what voice do you have? Employee satisfaction surveys? Right.

Don't forget the shirts! When I was reading ZFW Local meeting minutes, I don't think there was a meeting that they didn't talk about shirts. :panic:

I've done some searching and I have yet to find anything positive that comes out of the union.

Several people were being paid improperly during the Academy, and the Union stepped in and righted that.

A female controller once was not given proper maternity leave, as promised, and the Union righted that.

Another controller elsewhere was not allowed time to look for a new house, when he was moving to another facility...etc. NATCA took care of that.

Just a few things that I've seen...

As with any Union, there is an agenda, but I've never heard anyone mention anything heinous...

REALLY!! Wait till your up in front of a termination review board. Who will be standing next to you protecting your job? NATCA
Don't like the pay you get, or are going to get. NATCA is in Washington EVERY SINGLE day fighting to restore what we had.
Conduct and Discipline hearings...whose standing next to you..NATCA.
New ridiculous rules put forth daily at work, who works tirelessly, on their off days and nights to protect you? NATCA
Accident review board/traumatic stress event? Who is there for you...the FFAA, absolutely not you will be the scape goat (look at the LEX crash and see how originally the FFAA wanted to hang the controller) until NATCA stepped in.
The NY 12 that were fired for forgetting to check ONE box on their medical...who stepped in and got their jobs back? NATCA
Critically staffed facilities? The FFAA says they don't exist. NATCA is working their proverbial tails off daily to bring to light what is really going on.
Asbestos and black mold and rain in the building at ZTL. the FFAA says "all is well". NATCA is fighting for your health.

Maybe you need to do a little more research before you talk about what they don't do and see all that they do accomplish.

BTW...this is just the tip of the iceberg.

My father is a member of Local 5 (Heat and Frost Insulators) and it has done him some good.

As long as they don't ask/tell me to go the way of PATCO, I think NATCA is all right.

Oh, one more question CJ, what is the FFAA? I have an idea, but I don't know for sure.

So now that we all agree that terminal and en-route were seperated any ideas on when we should expect the email for en-route? Cause i've been checking my email like crazy....:banghead:

As far as we know, enroute panels haven't even met yet...

I just did and I don't feel any better at all, just more empty...

Also last night I spoke with a guy who works at Houston Center and told him I was in the hiring process, my predicament, etc. and he said with the situation they're in that I have just as good of a chance as anyone. After he said that, I just felt more anxious and angst ridden...

I'm really hoping that okc arrives around the time that school starts next semester...that way I have a reason to take a break from school. I've only got 3 semesters left...we'll see if I can eleminate any reason to go back for awhile. Making money=:rawk: V.S. Studying Business Economics =:(

Someone on StuckMic just claimed that they received a PEPC invite already. Can someone account for the veracity of this statement?

I'm not a part of PUBNAT2, but still incredibly curious.
