Announcement Ending 05/02

Im having mixed thoughts as well. I thought I did well on mostly everthing else except the ATST part... I kinda screwed up on the third one. The analogies were tough I thought. Overall I think I did OK not great.

I think those websites the book gave to study for analogies were great. They actually helped cause I prob would of missed 80 percent of the word analogies had I not studied.

Don't sweat the math section, everything comes out to ending in a 5 or 0, well at least it was that way when I took the AT-SAT (April 8 Atlanta, GA).

I live in PTC and I'm hoping for SAV (mid level tower/TRACON or a ARTCC is the way to go :nana2:). I work as an intern at ATL, standardized patient right across from the fifth runway, waitress at Taco Mac PTC, and Tutor.

That's good advice. Thank you.

You are are a busy girl. I may have seen you at Taco Mac as I was just there with some friends a few weeks ago. Also, I almost applied there awhile ago(to bartend), while I was going through my recent job search and long hiring process for my current job.

In what I believe to be record setting time, I got my ATSAT score back today one day after the test . I got a 91.4. :) I'm pretty happy with that.

Congratulations, everyone! What did you all think of LI/NYC?

Thanks! Driving from NYC on to Long Island reminded me very much of when I drive home from Boston to Cape Cod. It was all very familiar. The little roads, regular houses and stores made it seem like the NY version of my town. I just think it could have been done a little bit closer to the city. I should have just swam from Martha's Vineyard instead of having to go ALL the way around.

It really should be held closer to (or in) the city. When I flew into the airport nearby the Holtsville testing site back in March, you could've heard a penny drop, there were that few people in the place. I'm sure there are more desolate airports, but it's a pretty low traffic place - I wonder why they chose our FAA office branch for east coast testing.

Why on earth didn't you drive down through Hartford, and down to Bridgeport/New London, and take a quick ferry over?! Nuts!

Congrats MrBucket and drumpet!

My day is two weeks from yesterday and I'm hoping to do as well as you guys. Any tips other than the seventeen bajillion AT-SAT tips posted all over this forum?

Use at least a portion of all of your breaks. Get up, leave the room, walk around, get a drink of water, clear your head...most important thing is to not stress while you're taking it. My .02

Does the test tell you when to take breaks and how long you have or is it sort of at your own pace?

At mine it was both. You could take as many breaks as you wanted as long as you finished by I think 2:30. I took all the prompted ones plus one other because I felt like I needed to clear my head.

Yeah the entire test is self-paced you can take as many breaks as you want in between sections, but they do have two 15 minute and one thirty minute break built in. You just have to finish within the alotted eight hours.

Actually, yes. I had practiced the AT scenarios a fair amount, and I think that may have actually hurt me. Here's why: in the games (both on the CD and the one online), they mention separation but don't penalize for it. Well, on the test I set up some really tight traffic patterns going into the airport and one time like 4 planes just got too close, which resulted in a huge number of separation errors. So, for those practicing the games, make sure you're really paying attention to separation.

Also, when you're practicing the AT scenario, practice being efficient as well as not crashing planes. You're scored on efficiency as well as accuracy, so do stuff like putting planes on diagonals, keeping them at the fastest speed for longest possible, etc. to get them to their destinations faster.

As for analogies, check out the links in the green book as I think they helped me out a bit, especially for the picture analogies.

Like has been said, I think the breaks are extremely important. The computer tells you when it's time to take breaks, so that's not a problem. After the scan test, I was totally ready to take a break, and I went and walked around the hotel and felt much better to start the letter factory. I was SHOCKED to see people not taking the breaks. Perhaps it was a lack of knowledge about what was on the test for some of them, and not knowing that maybe it would be a good idea to take a break after the tedious letter factory before the AT Scenarios.

So anyway, those are my impressions. Hope they help.

That is very true about the AT scenarios. Also, don't forget to watch for the new white hand off planes and click on them as soon as they hit the screen.

Let me ask this. Is there any f-n need to have to wear headphones just to hear the word "roger" repeated millions of times, and then that million times however many people are in the room???? It was horrendous.
Some people started the AT scenarios before me. Their headphones were BLASTING the sounds of Roger, and planes smacking into each other. In a completely silent room! Everybody would look over at the person an laugh at their misfortune. It was a hoot.
When I started, I turned the volume down on the headphones IMMEDIATELY. Don't need anyone hearing my f-ups.

As far as breaks, yes take them. But if you are on a roll, don't stop just because the machine tells you to. I got a 45 minute lunch break. I sat in my car listing to music for about 20 minutes and decided I had had enough breaking. I just wanted to get in and finish it up. Then I skipped the last break in between letter factory and analogies.
I'm NOT discouraging breaks. In fact I support breaks mostly all of the time. They call me the Break kid. But, if you feel like stopping will muck up your pace, then keep going if you can. Take your breaks when YOU feel like your ready for them.

Took the test yesterday in Chicago, results posted already: 91.8

Sounds good to me. Hoop #2 complete. Bring on the PEPC.

Question about the ATST on the CD...

How is everyone doing on that when they practice? Because I am SUCKING. I understand that this doesn't do the refresh at 7 secs like the test but I am having a real hard time doing anything. Can anybody do this one successfully or do I just need some more practice?!?! I had a few crashes a bunch of sep errors and only a few landings in about 5 minutes...
